| I loved Scott Gibbs playing for us. He was tough as teak and never shirked anything. Always remember his try at London in 1996 where he seemed to take half the Broncos team over the line with him from about 15 yards out. He broke his thumb in scoring and I think it was his last game for us.
Gidley though was all class. His hands were unbelievable and whilst he didn't have much pace when he was with us he was the sort of centre that wingers dream of.
GIDLEY, for me, shades it.
And with my tb hat on, it's only one choice surely, but two options

| Gibbs just shades it for me. Just a pity he wasn't in a Saints jersey a bit longer.

A choice can be either an instance of choosing or that which is chosen.

| Scott Gibbs for me - anyone remember the try he scored against London at The Valley in '96. We could have lost the league that day and players like Gibbs (who broke or dislocated his fingers while scoring) pulled us out the fire!!
Having said all that I think Gibbs and Gidley are totally different players.

| Tough choice because we saw both players at differing stages of their careers.
Gibbs learnt the game really quickly and was pretty much in his peak years for us. Tough as teak and a formidable tackler.
Gidley came to Saints at the back end of his career and was the archetypal wingers centre.
I would pick Gidley and it would have been interesting to see him play here earlier in his career.

| Its a choice of brain or braun.
Gidley was a sexy footballer. He had the moves and in his prime he was wingers dream. Pace was the only thing he perhaps lacked whilst at Saints. Players just didnt know how to handle him and stood off giving him time to think and show his moves. His tackling was well above average too.
Gibbs was a big impact player who was an opposing centres nightmare with or without the ball. What he lacked in handling skills he had in strength and determination. Cant think off a worse place to be than facing Mr Gibbs at full speed.
Its a tough one but I will have to go with Gidley. He could score but more importantly he could create and thats a gift. Both were a class act and would, in their prime, walk into any team. Quality!

18821_1298880800.jpg
I've always thought of McGuire as a good player, and I wouldn't normally wish injury on any player, but there was a certain hint of poetic justice to that.
Another classic:
You forgot to take off the "Saints Reduction Factor" when calculating the ban.
Standard suspension / Saints Reduction Factor = Actual ban for Saints player.
Therefore (2 / 3) = 0.666
0.666 < 1 therefore actual ban equals "less than 1 match".
Therefore ZERO.
| If Its a choice of Gidley In his pomp against Gibbs In his, then Gidds by a country mile.
If Its limited to their time at Saints then Its a tougher choice and Id probably just give It to Gibbs.
Gidds sort of just petered out In his last season but Gibbs was a great competitor who could cut his opponent In half with his defence.
Loved watching em both though.

pretty much sums it up. Gibbs in the modern game would be an interesting prospect

| Gibbs all day long. Gidley was largely rubbish, his only decent spell coming just before his contract negotiations.

No he wasn't. He was average in his last year (when he was well past his best), but Gidley was fantastic for us.
Gidley for me too. A fantastic player, under rated by many as above. Great defender and had fantastic skills. Gibbs was tough, but nowhere near as skillful.

| Giddley would be my choice, but not by much. He had touches of sheer class, and his vast experience was invaluable to us. I thought at times it was like having a member of the coaching staff on the field.
Who knows, if Scott had continued to play RL, he may well have gone on to gain such experience, but alas, we'll never know.
