| Could return to us according to this
rlhttps://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2011/mar/21/sean-long-kyle-eastmond-st-helensrl
Now IMO i think we should stay away for as long as possible and carry on with Lomax and Gaskell.
Thoughts?

| I'd weep if we turned away from Lomax towards Long. I really would.

47035_1386433761.gif We can be bold enough to make a stand and do battle for our views and beliefs. But we must strive to be mature enough not to resort to unnecessary personal attacks upon people with opposing views.:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_47035.gif |

| I think Long was always due to return to the coaching staff at Saints. At least that's what he indicated during his last season. However I think some people are adding 1 and 1 and getting 11.
Firstly Eastmond would have to leave, this has been far from simple to resolve so far and could take months more.
2nd Since leaving Saints Long has been mostly injured
3rd We need the cash not the player
4th Unless we are not going to give the lads a chance and we have already planned to buy in next year, why take the experience away from the lads.
5th We've spent the last couple of seasons binning halfbacks (Long, Smith, Pryce (lets face it he ain't signing) and now Eastmond) surely we are not going to reverse that. For this year we have plenty of cover still.
Lomax, Gaskell, Wheeler, Pryce, Wilkin, Moore. Can all play halfback and if we got very desperate we could use Wellens and Roby as they have both played half back before too.
Hell Graham likes the short ball so he could fit in if we where down to bare bones.
Basically we don't need a stop gap, if it was a 3 year deal then fair enough, but that's not going to happen for a great player but an old player.

| bringing Longy back as cover and coach would be ok by me. I think he would be able to help Lomax develop and at the same time would provide some experienced cover in the halves

| Lomax and gaskell are the long term future at saints. Long would just add abit of experince to the side. Id rather have long back for the rest of the season then eastmond

Me too - At least you know if Longy did pull on a shirt he would be giving 100%

I agree.
I'd bring him back purely as cover, let's face it, Lomax isn't exactly made of strong stuff. I'd bring him back in more of a coaching capacity but have him in the playing squad also, so he would be available if we were struggling. He oculd really help the likes of Gaskell and Lomax develop. I wouldn't bring him back to take over from Eastmond, just cover and more of a tutor to the young halfbacks. I don't see a problem with that.

Don't agree.
A Long playing the Deacon role of just shifting the ball and kicking would be infinitely preferable to Wilkin or Moore at 7 IMO.
Long in the squad as back up to our injury prone halves would be a sensible move if we can do it.

Sorry, I rushed that post. What I should have said was -> The above are all (at a push) capable of doing a job in the halves. Long is himself injury prone. We have a wage bill to manage. All the above mean I think its folly to bring long back.

| Not for me. There might be one or two games this season when it would be handy to have him around, but on the whole I don't think it would be a worthwhile investment and I don't think it would send out the right kind of message.
