| Saints just tweeted:
"Luke Walsh has been cleared following Friday's match. The scrum half took a hit to the head but is fine according to Nathan Brown."

Excellent news. Showed some good touches, and seems precisely what we've needed!
Hopefully Fridays run out has cleared the cobwebs and were ready to go for wire!

| I was thinking if that game was more important would he have carrie on? And its no surprise he is fine and Nathan brown was making a mountain of a mole hill.

In all seriousness, I imagine there's a certain amount of frustration when a player gets injured against wigan. I know you defend it by saying it's aggression and to hurt not to injure etc etc but the line gets crossed far too often with very limited repercussion for Wigan. I would suggest far more play makers are injured borderline unfairly (or blatantly unfairly in some cases) against Wigan then against any other team - and that needs to be addressed - it's not as simple as saints forwards need to give it back, because the amount of crying that wane did if someone so much as looked at Sam meant referees were giving penalties before they touched him!

| Regardless of whether Walsh got injured or not, the incident has highlighted one of the major issues with SL at the moment. The RFL really need to get a grip on late illegal shots on half backs. You expect them to get a crack every now and again, it's part of the game, but how many times were half backs injured last season through shots like this? It won't be long before someone ends up with a broken jaw or cheekbone after a stray late elbow. It's not rocket science for opposition coaches to say take out the 7, they have no other playmakers. Not just saints, Wigan, Leeds, Warrington and Huddersfield all complained about it too. Give someone a 6 math ban and it would soon stop.

I think you should ask HKR after the cup tie v Saints last year.
But as I have said in previous years the idea of looking at who gets injured against whom (and how) is something that should be done. The RFL must (or should) have someone with six sigma accreditation who could perform the task.

Sam was being taken out every game, either after he passed or when he was running a line looking for an offload. Also every time he was on the floor somebody would have a go at him. Also we had matty smith and blake green taken out proper last season a couple months each. It happens and the one against GOB last season was dirty but the one from flower wasn't even close to being dirty. People still bring up the "chicken wing tackles" jeff lima left 2 years ago. Cannonball tackles name one where Wigan have actually done it? and don't say hansen in the grand final because he was nowhere near his knees.
Its alright saying that playmakers get injured more against wigan than anybody else where are the figures for that? Luke walsh would have carried on if that game meant anything. The last time i remember a player being taken out from dirty play was GOB has there been any others?

I don't remember Sam ever being taken off with concussion/ injured through dirty play. I'd never be so naive as to suggest it never happened, but relative to the players who limp off due to not quite dirty but suspicious tackles, it didn't happen as often. So either wigan players are much tougher than everyone else, or Wigan are playing closer to the aggressive - dirty line (the former seems unlikely.)
I'm not saying Wigan are downright dirty, or I fact the incidence I'm referring to are dirty, but it's close, it's enough to cause arguments on rlfans after the match. Warrington fans still go on about ratchford for the obvious example.
I don't have figures, I wouldn't even pretend to know where to begin to compile those figures from. It's from everything I read on here. The best way to describe it is you've turned Jason hooper into a tactic. He played very close to the same line, and used to absolutely infuriate opposition fans, Wigan fans included (he even got a move banned specifically because of him) and Wigan have taken that same approach as a team wide tactic. Was it right of him to take out players after they kicked the ball? At the time saints fans were blind to it, just as wigan fans do now.

Well said. It's a game wide issue. However it's difficult to draw the line. It's going to get to a stage where a big player is injured and that club would not be happy. I also don't think Wigan are dirtier than anyone else.
The worst example of this I've seen recently was Taylor on GoB last season. GoB's back was turned and Taylor had no intention of making a tackle, purely taking the HB out. Taylor was let off wasn't he? I don't think that sends out the right message to props who are looking to hit smaller players like that.

He got subbed just after that incident and walked off the field laughing and winked at the saints fans in the south stand.

| Glad he's ok, it's never good seeing players on the same team collide like that.
Looks a very solid halfback.

It could be that you are letting your bias against Wigan run away with you here. Wigan give it out and they take it. One case being the GF and Westwoods assault on Green. What was Wane's response "I thought he should have got up quicker".
Last season both Smith and Green missed large chunks of the season due to injury after being hit late, Green after being hit high by Paterson against his old team. Did Wigan moan, no. They just got on with it. It's a rough tough game. I would suggest watching Professional Football if you are not keen on contact.
