Matty Smith, attack I suppose if he has lots of flair players around him and is just expected to pass to forwards and kick he'll do ok. Wouldn't expect him to do any more than that though, or for him to step up against the top sides

I think fc-e was been sarcastic fella , seriously though it seems a strange one , he is just a steady eddie really , and woefully short of pace for a half back . The real surprise is the length of the deal at his age .

Not very impressed if I'm being honest. He's very basic as a player and no flair at all that good 7s need.

His kicking is pretty Avg which is a big part of a 7s game.

The fact Wigan have let him go to us while he's still under contract shows what they think of him. You don't let good players go to local rivals for nothing.

His confidence looks totally shot to me but maybe that's due to a feeling of not being wanted given this rumour. If he has the right team around him he can do a very simple job pretty well but he's drowned under a weight of expectation these past two years with us. A lot of the time he's not had Sam Tomkins or O'Loughlin (or both) to help steer the ship and with a young halfback partner alongside him it's been too much for him to cope with.

His best time at Wigan was in 2013 and 2014 playing alongside Blake Green. He was vastly under-rated for us and really dominated that partnership. Talking of him, isn't he off contract? He was linked with Hull so maybe you're looking to reunite the pair of them.

If you pair him with a really dominant 6, who is willing to take on the line then he will do fine taking the backseat but being a good organiser.

I know you have been linked with Soward, is there anyone else in the picture? Soward is good but another half who doesn't take on the line, not sure it will complement Smith. Long however improved him no end at Salford so who knows.

4 years though is a crazy for someone lacking in form at his age.

To be fair I don't think Wane is one to improve a half back who is experienced Saints are maybe gambling on the Long factor. Big risk but may pay off.
