To be honest I didn't see that type of score coming as Leeds looked pretty good in the first half.

Took it to us for the first 20 mins. Both sides blew some great chances first half which could have changed the game entirely.

Totally different game 2nd half, we dominated them in every department.

Anyone else notice how McGuire's defence out on the wing was shocking?

Kevin Sinfield should have got man of the match for St Helens. icon_biggrin.gif

It was good to see Gaskell hunting for the interception.

After 20-25 mins you could not have predicted that score, Leeds had good kick chase and very mean defence and were making yards and finding the offload.

I thought we were quite lucky to go in at half time leading but the second half display was awesome. The forwards were excellent as a unit and the half backs just keep improving.

I disagree that we were quite lucky. I think we put in a fearsome defensive display in the first half. Pity we let in two soft tries in the second - we really must stamp that out if we want to win any silverware this season (injuries pending, obviously!). Our attack in the second was a vast improvement on the first but we did get lucky with a couple of tries - interceptions are never well designed, just well spotted! Some of our tries, though, were fantastic to watch, and I'm loving our style of play under Simmons. I just wish he'd had a reasonably full team to coach this season.

I don't think anyone would have complained if we had gone in level or slightly behind at half time. We did defend our line very well but Leeds dominated territory and definitely had the chances. I was very surprised that Sinfield kicked the first penalty when they seemed to have us on the rack and then turned 2 down.

Kicking those penalties imo is a sign of a team lacking in confidence,it was just so soon to be kicking for goal,it showed they are not confident of scoring tries like they used to be.

To be fair to Sinfield, he was a bit on his own in attack. There was diddly squat from Burrow's Maguire Webb et al.

In the end Burrows and Maguire are not creative half backs, they are runners, this has worked fine for them, in previous years as Sinfield has controlled the game and their runners took the line on. But either they are still suffering from their injuries or their pace has just gone. But they did not take the line on and don't seam to get through the gaps like they used to.
This left Sinfield having to do everything for Leeds and lead to him doing stupid things in desparation to change the game.

They may just need time, but if Webbs, Burrows and Maguires legs have gone, they do not have other attributes needed to diversify their game IMHO.

To be fair it's only a 2nd week back or 1st for Webb, so it may just need time.

Agreed,i think it gave saints confidence knowing that Leeds doubted their own attacking capability

Leeds lost impetus with the change of Buderus for McShane, and in reality never recovered. I think Sinfield is a superb player but he had one of those games last night where nothing went right for him.

Rob Burrow seems to be a shadow of his former self, for whatever reason. It's a shame because he is a great lad and has been a superb player.

I don't think I've ever seen a team throw so many flat/forward passes than Leeds do this year.

Webb looks like he's playing NFL this year.
