| Quote: Our marker play was extremely poor, we became victims of our own errors in defence, "Coach Keiron Cunningham admitted his side paid a heavy price for their first-half defensive errors.
"Our marker play was extremely poor, we became victims of our own errors in defence," he said. "You can't give as good a side as Leeds so many chances around the ruck. They've got a great nine and a lot of good support players.
"Resilience and scramble is always very good from Saints but our ruck defence let us down massively.
"The frustrating thing is that when we came out in the second half after speaking about it at half-time we turn into a different side. If we had done that in the first half, I am sure it would have been a completely different game."
Cunningham defended his decision to reintroduce Walsh gradually following his eight-month injury absence, revealing that he will start next week's game against Widnes.
"There was always a plan to introduce Luke Walsh back into the game," Cunningham said. "He's come from a very severe long-term injury and I had to hold my nerve.
"We'll start him next week. I knew he'd make a difference in the game because he's a great seven."

I'm sure he knows our edge defence is poor. It's been vulnerable all season but our cover defence got us out of trouble. If he doesn't know we having trouble on the edges then we in deep trouble.

He was critical of our edges early in the season, praising our 'middles' (which he can't do now because they've caught up). It's alright him making these comments but he's doing sod all about the problems.

The problem with KC, he's still learning his trade and that was my worry when he got the job. If we have fully fit 17 then I think he will do ok but dealing with injuries comes with expernince. Getting your team to adapt when Injuries set in is tough job and Nathan Brown had it down to a art.

| Our defence was shocking, as was ball retention. Do we even have a defence coach?

Both Wilkin and Turner 6 misses each. I think Walamsley was worse than those two.
Even early in the year when we was unbeaten, we was still looking wide open on the edges (as I posted and was bagged for). We had vea and greenwood missing about 4 tackles a match and Turner outside them missing his standard 4 tackles. That's 8 tackles plus being missed on the edges which agsinst teams like Wigan and leeds will get punished (sourhs exploited us too).
Injuries or no injuries, the is no excuse for missing simple one on one tackles.

Believe it or not Cunningham stated that Sean Long was our Defence Coach. ( One of the best attacking halves in the Superleague era). Cunningham is in charge of the attack, or so he says.

| The honeymoon period is over now for KC, he needs to take stock and make changes.
Makinson is not working at full back and is slower that Wello returning the ball, we should keep Lance there and return Makinson to the wing.
In the pack we are back to grab tackling allowing the opposition to offload and get the ball to the fringes.
KC should have seen we had no composure in attack and should have brought on Walsh after 15 mins, currently KC is learning by his mistakes but its costing us points.

| Time for Mr. Teflon to make a statement?
Saints have a big pack BUT the grounds are now drying out and that will suit the more athletic and quicker forwards/teams. Saints lack of pace and over reliance on that big pack will be a concern for Cunningham.

I think he's doing the correct thing with Walsh. It was a horrific injury and couid easily ended a plsyers career. I wouodnt start him next week either and look to the wakey game for his first start.
It's not just physically coming back from a injury like that but it's 90% in your head. I've just come back from a broken ankle (nowhere near as serious as walsh) and I was out 4 month and it's constantly on my mind at the moment everytime I tackle, step off my right and even when stood in the tackle so I can imagine what walsh must be feeling.

Our defence has saved us numerous times this season.
Last night it all came apart and the whole performance was similar to the Warrington home game from last season. Some amateur errors at times and defensively the effort just wasn't good enough. Leeds were too quick around the ruck and destroyed us on the edges. Full credit to them they did a job on us but we're much better than that. The 1st half was embarrassing and not befitting of this club.

We have been very suspect outwide all year but we've scrambled well and got back. Tommy made many cover tackles this year from clean breaks but we are little busted and tired so we ain't getting back how we was.
The edge defence is nothing short of woeful with basic one on one tackles being missed and poor decison making is costing us.

I think I would start him next week, we,ve had quite a few games lately in the first 10 mins were we have been very sloppy in our attacking play, given the ball away in attack to the opposition and we,ve gone 6 points down and chasing the game.
Walsh would calm us down and give us better quality execution, once we control the game then Walsh could be benched for a spell.
I can understand KC way of thinking of keeping Wilkin at 7 at the start of an energized game, but yesterday was far too long for Walsh introduction, the game had gone especially with a high quality side like Leeds.
