| In the 1st half all of our forwards apart from Walmsley just didn't have the same aggression as last week. Hull won the territorial battle and just kept kicking to the corners and tried to box us in. Silverwood let them slow us down a bit too much for my liking.
In the 2nd half our forwards were excellent. Walmsley in particular was immense tonight, his yardage was unreal. And Amor was very very good in the 2nd half, good yards and a couple of offloads too. Soliola ran well and scored and created a try. Roby and Wilkin also played well.
Walsh, especially 2nd half, completely bossed the game. He really is exactly what we needed. You can see him directing the rest of the team and telling them where he wants them. His kicking game was good again and 5/6 at goal with only one from the touchline missing.
Percival was shaky 1st half but much better in the 2nd. I thought both wingers returned kicks very well and yet another acrobatic finish from Makinson.
All in all a pleasing win. Slow start but got better as the game went on. Still room for improvement which is a good sign I think.
The final mention has to go to Steve Prescott and the pre-match build up. I completely lost it during the minutes applause and was blubbing like a little girl. I thought it was an excellent tribute from both clubs and I'm sure his wife, kids and family would have been extremely proud tonight.

It sounded a decent arm wrestle - we're not going to overwhelm opposition every week like we did wire, so it's good to see us win an arm wrestle. It's the type of game we'd of lost last year, and it's good to see us recognise a poor half at the break and come out and do the hard work to put it right.
Little disappointed at conceding the last try, it was a pet peeve of mine last year, and I don't want it creeping in this year!
Walsh sounds like he bossed it (again) with his kicking - and his goal kicking made a huge difference! Wilkin also sounded like he had a much better game.
Onwards and upwards, any news on turner?

| Walmsley was quality tonight, as was Roby. I still think we lack a bit of impact from the bench with Jones, Laffranchi and Wellens there. I'd be tempted to go with LMS from the bench and start Lafranchi against Salford.

| I've just put on another thread, we need to start with Sia. We are missing his aggression, work rate and defence from the start. Manu should make way as he was dire again.
The 1st half hull was the better team. I thought Amor, Walmsley, sia and Walmsley was excellent 2nd half. They give us the field position we needed to put points on the board.

Not heard anything. He shot of the line to try and put a big shot on Ellis (I think) and came off worse. Not sure on the contact as it was opposite side of the field to me so couldn't comment on how he got the injury and what it was exactly.

| Manu needs to be on the left, he was much more effective there last season than he has been so far on the right.

He's been awful this year in the first 2 games. He started slow last year. I think he likes dry conditions.

| I'm still not sure about Turner at centre. On the plus side I thought Wilkin, Walmsley and Swift, who gives his all every game were stand outs tonight.

Both wingers have been good in the first 2 games.

| I said at half time to people that it looked like Saints were going through the motions in the forwards but using kicks to turn their pack and tire them out.
I felt that we might go up a gear in the second half and run over them, and for a large part of the 2nd half we did in fact do that.
Walmsley and Amor just ate up the yards in their second half stints. Cant wait though for big Mose to get fit.
Lafranchi was weak going forward again, though he does do the defensive shift. Personally would rather we had offloaded Lafranchi to Widnes than Clough.
Walsh was a bit of a turnstyle defensively, though again him and Wheeler do give us fast crisp width in the passing, and a top class kicking game.
Percival looked dangerous all night and made a number of half breaks. You get the feeling that in a year or two's time when he physically matures, he will turn those half breaks into full on defence splitting runs.
Wilkin put in a big shift defensively, I think he made 3 or 4 tackles in one set of 6 in the first half.
Overall we showed glimpses of what we are capable of, but we are still a work in progress with plenty of improvement left in us. This is a good sign as even when only playing in patches we are now good enough to dispatch a side like Hull.

It a shame we can't get a little better ball to Percival, he really looks a threat with the ball.

| I thought Walshy struggled in the first half to get the team going but his kicking game gave us some field position to defend.
For me Amor, Walmsley, LMS and Roby have been outstanding in the 2 games so far.

| Tonight was a very hard fought win and exactly the kind of game we'd have lost over the last few seasons.
Hull are a very decent team. They've got several quality players and they were very close to overrunning us in the first half tonight and putting a big score on us. We had to hang in there and hope for more ball in the second half, which we got. When we did get the ball we did well, the forwards, particularly the props and Roby put in another great stint, that was Walmsley's best game in the vee I'd say. The referee had a big impact on the game tonight. Hull held down ridiculously tonight, there was a conscious pause of two or three seconds at every play the ball. I'd love Opta to do stats on the speed of the play the ball, as I think there would be a 2 or 3 second difference tonight.
Highlights of the game for me were Walmsley's performance (Error free tonight?) and Sia's hit on the Hull fullback. Yowsers, it was impressive that he got up to make that play the ball.
