Unlucky Shaun once a Saint always a Saint
Was it his knees that finally did it for him?

| Shocking news for Shaun - all the best in the future.
However, it makes the decision to let Andrew Dixon go all the more stupid.

WHY! He was let go because he wasn't going to be good enough, so it is still the correct decision. It will allow another Junior to come into the team and show us all his potential.
Regarding Shaun, it is terrible news for any player to have their career cut short through injury, but at 23 it is all the more sad. Best of luck for the future.

| Very sad for the kid. He probably was never going to make the grade at Saints but he could have had a very nice career lower down the ladder nevertheless. You can only wish him the best for the future.

| I always thought Magennis had good potential and looked to have a good enough pair of hands to develop into a quality 13 in the future rather than a prop.
Always sad to see a player have to retire through injury, but even worse at such a young age. Good luck to Shaun in whatever he goes on to do

| Alwsys sad when a player has to retire early, good luck to him.
Also seems strange that Keith Mason was on the market too and was snapped up by Cas. Ok not a world beater but could have come in and done a job, likelihood was he would offered us more than Perry too.
Don't understand our recruitment in recent years.

I think we're okay for numbers in the forwards. I agree that Mason would offer more than Perry, but I doubt we can afford the luxury of having them both, and we're stuck with Perry for the time being at least.
As for Shaun Magennis, best of luck to him in whatever he goes on to do. It's cruel for him to have to finish when he was only just getting going.

I think Joe Greenwood steps into the squad place left by Magennis. I don't think this weakens our squad. He hardly played (if at all) after his ban.

| I remember when he first broke through after his knee ops and having both knees heavily strapped, I thought had done incredibly well to get over it considering it happened so early in his career. What a shame.
Good luck to him on a different career path.

| Always sad to see a young player forced into retirement because of injury, no matter who they play for.
Wouldn't recommend a boxing career for him though

| Pretty positive we have an undersized second rower we can promote...
Hey, why not bring in another up and comer from the Championship?

| Sad too see any player retire through injury, particularly at such a young age. I wonder if Greenwood will be given a chance, he has impressed me when I have seen him at U20 level.
