| I'm sure the NRL would be highly impressed with the appointement of a coach who lost his last 8 games(?) in Super League before getting the sack. The only way Brown will get a NRL head coaches job is if he can salvage his reputation by actually winning something at Saints, and not getting a side up to perform well for a few games at the wrong end of the season. Would anyone be particularly upset if Brown didn't come now? I get the feeling that most speccies are hardly overwhelmed at the thought of him taking over, and turning us into a team of grapplers. Think the entertainemnt is poor this year? Next year could be a whole heap worse.

| Brown is an improvement on what we have at present.
The big worry if Brown gets an NRL job is who would replace him.
Saints would be in real trouble for next season without a proper coach, and in the short time available we would be struggling to pick up anyone decent from Australia, that would leave us with UK coaches like Mcnamara or Brian Noble to pick from

| This is why its a mistake waiting for a coach to come in months after appointment.
Things change pretty quickly in RL. Brian Smith sacked and Trent Robinson appointed within the week.
Even if Brown does honour his contract with Saints this speculation could have been completely avoided if he had started in the job soon after Simmons was sacked.
What happens if he did join Wests and leaves us in the lurch?

What's to say that wests wouldnt be interested in brown if we did put him in charge when Simmons went?
If they want him, they will go for him if he's at saints or not.

| Interesting. You wouldn't have thought his stock would be high enough for him to be considered for a gig in the NRL just now, but he keeps getting mentioned in the press over there whenever there is a vacancy. In the event that he did go to Wests, how would people feel about us going for Brian Smith?

The best thing about Brian Smith is that he would develop KC into a top coach

I think that has probably got more to do with the arrogance of the Aussies than anything else. They have come to view Superleague as a training ground for their assistant coaches, which in part is our own fault because we will keep taking on their assistant coaches but also is a reflection of the view they have of our game: that it is somewhere between their second tier and the NRL.

How so? Has Brian Smith ever won anything over there? I'm sure someone once said that he hasn't.

| Do we think he will actually leave though? He hasn't been contacted yet and surely Saints would have to agree to it too
