| OK I have been a Saints fan for 27 years and I have had a long think about this and the sport needs Wigan win the grand final this year. For two reasons, it’s for the good of the game and they simply deserve to!
After Leeds winning the league last year the entire league has seemed mentally scared. Now that is not Leeds fault and I am not bashing them. They played by the rules and won. But I just feel that the game could not handle another faux champion.
The quality of the league this year has been terrible. Many have blamed the number of teams but really it is down to a lack of elitism. Teams know that finishing in the top half of the league will give you an equal shot at being champions. No longer do you need a top 2 finish to have a shot. Trying your best every game is not only seen as non-essential but in fact a waste of effort and energy.
The only other team that have looked like Champions is Warrington. So why am I not rooting for them?
Well they have treated the regular season with more distain that any other team. With a squad and a coach as good as they have they should have been doing what we did in 2006. But they too see trying your best in every game as a burden. This ranges from taking a holiday a week before the start of the season to half-hearted efforts against Salford and London. It is clear that Warrington have just not tried as hard as they would have if it was first past the post. Instead choosing to save themselves for the cup and the playoffs
So what are our choices, 12 second rate teams that would bring shame to the sport if named the Super League Champions. A team full of superstars that have opening shown that they don't need, and are unwilling, to put their best in every week. Or the team that has finished top of the league and has made every effort to win every game they have competed in this year.
For the good of the game there is only one answer. The scum from over the lump.
Thanks for reading, now drag me through the streets and hang me outside the town hall.

| I absolutely understand why you would say this and agree with everything except using the word Wigan - just use the words minor premiers
I think the idea that is being pushed around the corridors of Red Hall would help this situation, reducing the teams in the league - would have to reduce the number of places in the playoff. I am a fan of top 5, I think that gave such an advantage to the top team that it was then worth fighting for. It also means you have to be consistent to get into the playoffs.
The current first round of the playoffs for the top 4 is mostly meaningless and likely to be repeated in round 3

| I've started some silly threads in my time, but this is up there.
Wigan have also done exactly what Warrington did, they rested half their team and lost to Widnes and did the same and lost to Bradford.

Now that Big Mac is backing them! do not count it out! Did he not say on one article that The Bulls have to stay in Super League regardless of what some other Super League clubs think!

| I don't see how the pies apparently deserve to win it when both Leeds and Wire have belittled them, two teams that we have beaten on their own ground.

I won't be doing that. But I will be booking you in for psychiatric treatment and I will also be getting myself some tablets as I'm feeling distinctly after reading your post, which I did think was more than a little

| I feel unclean after reading this.
Every team knows what needs to be done at the start of the season. Winning every game isn't necessary and leeds proved that last year, as did wigan by not playing a squad and running out of has before the end of the season. The smartest coaches at the smartest teams will get their side up for the run in, as McDermott did last year. The dumb ones will burn out and lose. That's the game, live with it

| Whilst I can see where the OP is coming from and agree that the best team over 27 rounds deserve to be champions, did we see any Wigan fans willing us to be champions as we topped the league in 2005, 2007 & 2008?
The fact that a team could win less games than they lose and be crowned champions is an absolute joke and the system needs to be looked at but everybody knows the playing field before the season kicks off. Regardless of where we finish in the table, if we can get to OT and win on GF night then I wont be giving any sympathy to Wigan as they havent been good enough when it mattered. As harsh as it may seem, its happened to us on far too many occasions for me to care if it happened to somebody else.
Does that mean that the OP felt sorry for Wigan last year because they finished above us, yet we beat them twice in the playoffs and dumped them out to get back to OT? Again, I know I certainly didnt!!

These opening few words should be enough to prevent you ever saying what you have done in the title of this thread.
People like you really do make me want to vomit. All this politically correct, "for the good of the game" nonsense really does wind me up.
It is very very simple, a Saints fan of 27 years SHOULD hate Wigan and never want them to win a trophy, regardless of the moral implications that you refer to.
So what happens if it is a Saints v Wigan Grand Final? Would you be hoping Wigan win it, for the good of the game?? Of it is was Wigan v Catalans for example, you would still rather Wigan win it?? And to think you actually class yourself as a Saints fan!! Disgusting.

| I'd shout for a dictators select 13 before I'd shout for Wigan. The idea of supporting Wigan or wanting them to win makes me feel physically sick
In the world club challenge I normally support the English team ... apart from when Wigan play
