| Saints total metres: 1511
Wigan total metres: 1188
Top Metre makers:
Roby (Saints) 197
Puletua (Saints) 195
Charnley (Wigan) 154
Tomkins (Wigan) 149
Graham (Saints) 144
McCarthy Scarsbrook (Saints) 120
Lomax (Saints) 110
Top Tacklers (Misses)
Wilkin 50 (0)
Roby 43 (1)
O' Loughlin 41 (0)
Mossop, Leuluai, Puletua, Hoffman 31
Another interesting stat was that Scott Moore made more metres than any Wigan forward. Stats obviously don't prove to be the be all and end all but I think it shows that we maybe lacked a little composure to take advantage of our field position. The completed sets and missed tackles didn't show too much difference between the sides.
EDIT - Sorry, forgot to mention Wigan's outstanding defence, which of course was probably the biggest contributing factor to their win.

| Backs up what I thought. We dominated in the pack, made the hard yards and controlled them very well.
Our defense was also excellent and James Roby is a machine. 197 metres, top and and second in tackling. Man of Steel this season as he's been that good every week.
Jammer's 144 metres despite a broken back was impressive too.
It's a game we should have won given how well we played. Plenty to work on in attack however.

I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass, and I am all out of bubblegum.
Don't you struggle. Don't you fight. Don't you worry, cause it's your turn tonight!

| Great meters there from Saints. Although fully expected, you completely dominated territory in the first half at least. But like previously said, you did bugger all with it in terms of converting it into points.
What I found interesting watching the match again. Was the lack of speed from Wigan's defensive line. Even though we slowed you down around the ruck for the majority of the match. We didn't rush up in defense like we have done so often in games this season. Whether it was a tactic from Madge that's beyond my comprehension to understand then maybe. But that for me was a big factor in why Saints made such great meters and in turn dominated field position.

I think it's one of those games that came down to just a couple of incidents, them mainly being the break from Charnley and Tomkins wonder finish. If you'd told me before the game we'd ahve kept Wigan to 18 points though, I'd have fancied us to get the win. We've half sorted one aspect out in our defence but seem to have lost our direction in attack. Hopefully Pryce and JLo playing together for the next few games should see better cohesion come play off time. I don't think our season is quite over yet.

Matches their consistently outstanding performances. These two alone deserve to get something good from our season and I hope that other players, senior and junior, pull their fingers out for the remainder of it so that they do get something good from the season.

This IMO proves even more that our backs just ain't good enough. The forwards are doing the hard yard but nothing to show for it.
That much dominatio, possesion and field postion should result in points on the board.
I actually felt sorry for our pack Saturday as they deserved to be on the winning side.

| Wilkins tackling stats are unreal. 50 tackles and none missed. Great stuff that.

Obviously. But this thread was looking at how that happened.

| You've got to feel for the forwards there, they completely dominated Wigan and got nothing to show for it.

It's not often our pack gets a beating. IMO we've the strongest pack in super league. I felt sorry for them Saturday, they was by far better than Wigan but our back just didn't create anything.
I think Jon Wilkin has been the best backrow in super league this year and that includes being better than Hoffman( I highly rate) and ben westwood( I highly rate).
Also, TP and roby have been awesome this year. Getting both signed on deals was great by the club as we'd miss these two big time.
TP was my man of the match on Saturday.

| Leon Pryce was on the field but he wasn't at the match and I think that was a large part of our attacking problem. But as coaches have said, we also played to laterally and only when we fixed that up could we make something of the game.
But crucially, IMO, we dropped the ball at vital times. We dropped way too much ball anyway but some of our indescretions just undid all our hard work. TP, Moore, LMS, Wello, Foster among others were all guilty. I thought we'd fixed that problem as our ball retention had been good for the last two matches but seemingly the players thought otherwise.
And for those blaming the coach, no coach coaches his team to drop the ball!
Oh, and another stat. We forced FIVE goal line dropouts.
