| When I read this I was expecting to hear that the former Saints prop had died, what a black outlook on life I must have Think I'll go to bed.

Funnily enough me too. I used to love watching him play...was so quick for such a big man!

One of my early heroes, along with Eric, George Nichols, Kel, John Matle, cracking pack!
Oh, and he had a good physique. For a darts player!

| I remember the 1978 CC games. One week at Oldham he burst through and side stepped inside the full back. The following week at home to Huddersfield he burst through and beat the full back on the outside. What memories.

| Saw it, well done to him! Would be great if he made the final but will be a difficult semi-final.

Ah...you're from the same generation...happy memories of my dad taking me and standing in the kids pen! Great pack and decent backline...two ginger wingers, Pimblett at full back, Billy Beynon, Frank Wilson,John Walsh, Bill Francis...such evocative names! And Dave Hull whose position was "sub"!

Same here mate.Happy days, being taken here there and everywhere on what were whole family outings to watch the handrags.Me,mum, dad, grandparents, aunties and uncles, all used to go watch the lads back then.Trying to get home from the back of beyond on a freezing Tuesday night with school the next morning.Struggling for an hour or so to get to a midweek away game only to find it was called off just before kickoff.
Some great names there bringing back treasured memories.Johnny Walsh, what a player, wouldn't mind an 18 year old Walshy in the squad now.

| John Walsh was my favourite all time Saints player, he oozed class. Such a pity that he retired so young.
Frank Wilson was great bloke. He lived in Billinge and would often come down and have a game of football with us on Banks Park.
As the majority of us were Wigan fans we used to give him some stick, but he took it in the manner given.
He did get his own back however when Saints beat Wigan 23 -0 at Central Park in a Lancashire Cup game at Central Park, and he really rubbed it in at our next kick about.
He was very quick, and a good all-round athlete.

Bit shy when it came to doing his share of the tackling. But very nimble on his feet for a big man. Murphy always used to sign him for whatever team he was coaching at the time, so what do I know.
