Just read the sporting life article on us being full stength for the Wigan game. It mentions that Longy is doing a book signing on Saturday before the game and it carries a soundbite from Mick Potter about how he expects some controversy to be contained in the book given Long's colourful career.

Do we think the club has thought this through? Should a controversial book be released on the day of the game like this? And do we expect any real controversy? It will be an interesting read to get his take on the various events in his career such as Gleesongate, the departure from the GB tour and the various coaches he has worked with.

certainly i.m.o. what you see is what you get with longy and i reckon this will come through in his book. i hope its an interesting read unlike scully's boring autobiography.....zzzz

Can't see it being an issue myself. In my experience controversy in RL autobiographies extends to the use of quasi-swearwords like 'bloody'.

Perhaps. But what if Long, upset about not being offered a 2 year deal by Saints after a career of effort and achievement at the club, just opens both barrells on certain people at the club? On the same day as the play offs?

I can see why Long is releasing it then, the buzz of the season still ongoing would generate more initial sales than a post-season release date, but if he were to criticise anyone at the club it could have a detrimental effect.

What if it says "the sintellisn fans are gash, very rarely do they sing or get behind the lads, its ok when were winning, but when we lose a game the scousers burn down our homes and steal our cars, Hull will be great as their fans are dynamite"..........

I think you might find this one will be very different. The fall out could reach far and wide.

It's bizarre timing and with one paper serialising it during the week, I sense a lot of unwanted press attention and dirt digging when (should we get to the final) we should be getting positive press and talk about the match itself.

Could it not have waited one week? I just find it incredibly stupid.

Also when you take into account who has worked on the book with Longy you just know the preverbial will hit the fan!

My copy of Longy's book that I pre ordered with Amazon has just dropped through my door this morning!!!!

the club has no choice really. they cant stop him releasing a book, and short of calling all the players into camp before the game, they cant stop him doing a signing session on saturday afternoon.
