| Just been on Merseyside Longy given permission to speak to other clubs. I think it's safe to say this his is last season in a Saints shirt.

| So we'll probably see him at Blackpool Gladiators next season, then?

Saints offered him 1 year, he wants more.'"
In all seriousness, as great a player as he has been over the years, I'm not sure how at his age, he can command a deal of more than one year. Especially as he's not exactly fired on all cylinders for Saints this season.

| That article sounds like he is pushing to try to get more from Saints rather than anything else. I think a one year deal is pretty reasonable at this stage in his career.

Im sure that he knows and understands that too. At the end of the day, does he want to continue to play at a succesful club for 1 more year, or drag his ass around playing for Salford or Wakey for a couple of years earning a bit more.
Even though he has never had the off-field commercial profile of Scully, he cant be short of a bob or two, assuming he has been sensible over the past decade.

| In different circumstances I'd be happy to give him one more year, but given the current crop of youngsters I think it's definitely time to say thank you and goodbye.
I'll be a little bit disappointed if he signs on for 1 year, and absolutely flabbergasted if he gets 2.
What a player he has been for this club though. Legend.

Spot on, that, really. You can tell from the article that he wants to stay at Saints, and you can tell by how he plays on the field that Saints is 'his' club.
Our loss, back in 1997, was most definitely your gain.

| TBH, from what i have read its all pretty obvious. He has said he would like to stay at Saints and finish his career, saying 'it would kill him to leave Saints', however at this stage of his career if a better offer comes along, then he's going to take it and no-one can blame him for that.
I'd rather he retired than joined another club, been a great player for us, and IMO, he still is.

| He made it quite clear at the Forum last week that he feels he has two years left in him.
Wello made a joke at the end "Thanks for turning up to Longys retirement party!"
I personally think he has 2 years in him, but it is good the club are not begging him its the other way round, he knows any move would be downwards.

| Club are doing the right thing here.
They have shown thier respect for him by offering him another deal, and also by announcing early that he is free to pursue offers elsewhere.
Longy is one of the greats at the club and im glad that for all parties involved that everything is out in the open re his future

If he is confident of having 2 years left, why not sign a one year deal and prove his worth for a second?

I would prefer him to retire on a relative high than see him carting himself round at the bottom of the league like Newlove did.
Even if his form has dipped this year he can still go out with another Wembley final and Grand Final appearance / win to his name.
