Very good news, lets hope it lasts all season'"
all very good, but lets look at it when Celtic, Quins and Catalans have all paid a visit.
What was our average for the same 5 games last year?

What was our average for the same 5 games last year?'" I actually worked this out yesterday for a discussion on the wire board ...
v wire 2009 – 17,009 ..... 2008 – 13,397
V Hull KR - 11,830 ..... 2008 – 8,404
V Salford - 9,723 ..... 2007 – 9,409
V Leeds - 13,966 ..... 2008 – 11,188
V Hull FC - 13,684 ..... 2008 – 10,204
Average 13,242 ...... 10,520
For Salford I have used the 2007 attendance due to the lack of one for 2008.

| I think the fine weather due this weekend will negate any lack of bulls fans. I would be really dissapointed with anything sub 11000 on Friday

Some excellent crowd numbers rolling into Knowsley Road this season so far.
You have to ask the obvious question though, why now?
Over at Leeds we've seen a 7.5% decrease over the attendances for the same opponents from 2008 (2007 for Salford) and I've excluded the opening night V Celtic for the comparison.

I'm quite surprised by this, any particular reason?

I'd have thought crowds decreasing during a recession would be the norm. St Helens bucking that trend is the surprise for me.
After the first 10 rounds of 2008 the 60 games had attracted 613,609 at an average of 10,266 per game.
This season (with Celtic and Salford added) the first 10 rounds should be 70 games. For one reason or another there have been 69 SL Regular Round games played so far with an increased aggregate (for 10 rounds) of 660,981 but a decreased average of 9,579.

It seems the offers the club have had on tickets are paying off but - especially when you see the overall average - it is good to see us bucking the trend so much, I expected a slight increase but not something so dramatic.

| The free kids season tickets when a shirt was bought probably helped.
A very good idea IMO, although some who had already bought their season tickets would probably disagree.
My youngest granddaughter wasn't going to bother but she took up the offer of a free ticket with the shirt.

Don't forget that average will be reduced by the poor crowds at Salford and Celtic.
One of the reasons for our increased attendances will no doubt be the number of free junioe season tickets that were issued.

You'll still have to go some to offset the losses being experienced elsewhere (not that they are St Helens problems) but long may the numbers continue to rise. The club deserves it with the quality they have on show. Good news all round with a new stadium to fill come 2010?

Strange this year.
Wigan got a higher attendance for the Celtic game than they did v Huddersfield or Castleford, and only marginally less than against Bradford.
Maybe it was due to being a Sunday game, is that the way to go?
