| Was talking to a Leeds fan today who is a mate of mine and he said if Rob Burrows try was disallowed against the Bulls Chris Joynt's Wide to West Try certainly should have been chalked off for exactly the same offence! From what I remember Joynt was infront of West as the intial break was made but I dont think he was obstructing the Bulls defence. Anyway not to be outdone on this matter I watched the Try on Youtube and its quite clear Joynt did not obstruct the Bulls defence but he still wouldnt accept! He stated that he was in a offside position as he was miles infront of the play when the break was made???
Thoughts?

| The burrow "try" had a knock on in the build up, it was blatent, they need to move on.
The wide to west try was the greatest superleague try so far were a shattered bulls just didnt have the energy to tackle us!

That its nothing to do where he was when the break was made. Its where he was when the ball was played that matters.

| I may be mistaken but wasn't it because Webb was offside from the actual play the ball, making no attempt to get back into the line, and therefore he wasn't allowed to take part in that play?
Joynt is in view behind the play the ball for the Wide to West try, so its a completely different situation.

| He's meaning the part where Brent Webb was in front of the play the ball and then took part in the move. I'm sure they said on the Super League Show, or Boots'n'All, that it was a new ruling this season so it wouldn't apply to the Wide to West try anyway.

| Hasn't it always been offside if you are ahead of the play the ball and get involved without getting behind the play the ball first? I remember it happening against Salford in a game I listened to on the radio in the Goulding days. The commentators were going on about how amateurish Salford were for being offside at the play the ball when in possession.
When it happened in the Airport derby I was screaming the house down for the referee to get him for offside and punched the air when he did. A Wire fan who watched it with me was laughing his head off at me, telling me he couldn't possibly be offside because Burrow played him on.

| Just look in the newspapers the day after the games and they will tell you Joynts was a try and Burrows wasn't.

| Why?
The offence that caused the try to be disallowed was Webb was not behind the PTB, therefore out of play and unable to get involved until the next PTB.
Joynt was onside at the PTB, watch it again on YouTube. You can clearly see Joynt standing behind the PTB to the left.

Correct, as simple as that. Joynt was behind Sculthorpe and Cunningham when the ball was played, Webb was at least 5 metres in front of the Leeds player when the ball was played.

| Pretty straight forward really. Just some of our lot couldn't seem to grasp the facts at the time.
It was all a conspiracy, as Pam.

they changed the ruling a few years ago, i'm pretty sure the attacking side had to be 5 metres back from the play the ball, and all the ockers at london broncos kept getting penalised for it(dunno if it's just our refs) but they ended up changing the rule to be you can't advance past the ptb in attack to simplify it.

Yes everyone was behind the ball when it was played. This leeds fan either does not understand the rules or is just bitter. My guess is a bit of both.
