| As for our game tonight, I've no real problems with anything apart from the refereeing. Catalans are comfortably better than us in all departments and they thoroughly deserved to win that game. They game winning moment was the tackle on Theo Fages in the second half when we were mounting pressure on their line, it was an incredible effort. They are a good team and probably only the lack of discipline in their French players will hold them back. Their pack was much better than ours, they are bigger, stronger and fitter than we are. Their star players also make the McManus sympathisers look silly. While people on here bitch and moan about there being no players to sign in the whole world, Catalans have players like Taylor, Stewart, Inu and Carney running round, through and over us.
Whilst we had a brief flirtation with positivity after a good performance at Warrington, tonight is a massive return to earth. There has to be a realisation at the club that our current squad just isn't acceptable. McDonnell, Owens, Turner, Richards etc. They should not be at the club, never mind in the 17. They also need to look at the strength and conditioning side of things, our players aren't strong enough and aren't fit enough.
If McManus is determined to stick with KC, he needs to get an experienced NRL head coach in to help guide him. He also needs to find someone who can help with recruitment, it's farcical currently. The names being banded about as signings for both this season and next season are just not good enough. Time to think big McManus or the drop out of the 4 will soon become a drop out of the 8.
I can't leave this post without mentioning the referee tonight. I have never seen a worse showing from a match official. He didn't play the offside rule tonight, just completely ignored it altogether. Big Dave Taylor didn't get onside once all night and there were several occasions where they were 5 or 6 yards offside, he missed a knock on by Roby under our sticks because he couldn't see the play the ball because he had two men in his way. He also needed the touch judges coming on to give a penalty. His equipment clearly broke before the game, the two officials tried to fix it before the game but he waved them off, but then decides it needs fixing when Catalans are forced into a drop out. You can't do that, wait for a genuine break in play such as a try or an injury. He didn't affect the outcome as Catalans were so superior, but he made the game a mess. SL as a competition has to do better with referees. They need more of them and they need to be appraised properly and made to improve.

I still think the 2 year extension was an error, to compound the initial one of picking him too early.
I'm a great believer in not sacking coaches mid-season and I think we are probably in a position that will secure his position until at least the end of the season.
If we had not rushed to sign him up for a further 2 years, there could have been a more pleasant parting of the ways. But the way it is going it looks like we would have to move him out before the contract ends.
It does seem strange to sign a coach to a top flight club that has no coaching record to speak of. But we did do it with Hanley and that worked well initially.'"
Blackbrook are looking for a head coach, I'm assuming there is no poaching agreement set down with MM and KC.

A number of your own fans don't think he's up to the job, for me if the board ever wish to remove him as coach would not the statue business not be a great embarrassment to the club. The killer instinct he had as a player is missing as a coach, too much a mister nice guy. More liked than feared by the players, and for me you've got to be both in his job now.'"
Thats the danger of managing player that you played with a few years prior, it will always compromise your positio. How could he dress down Wilkin for a poor performance when he used to have the peg next to him.
Same thing happened when Daryl Powell first managed at Leeds, he did a decent job but it took bringing in a more ruthless Tony Smith who was prepared to drop club legends like Cummings to galvanise the team.
Smiths contract is up at the end of the year btw...

The statue is for his service as a player and being a Saints great. It's nothing to do with him as a coach.
If we posted this on the Wigan board, we'd be banned.'"
Why are people always fishing, trolling when they make a legitimate point for argument? I have only put a point of view out for possible discussion. I've not called anyone, or swore at anyone. I have said only that in my opinion (with which some Saints fans seem to agree) that KC is not a good coach, and is part of the reason why Saints are inconsistent at the minute. The statue was an aside to the main point. Off topic but relevant, these boards are for general discussion about RL and and that doesn't mean just saying nice things about any club. I don't believe I have broken any rules of the site. I treat people only as they deserve, as they treat me. but if you think I've over stepped the mark, then you must do as you please. Apologies for the off topic end rant.

I loved KC as a player and one of my all time saints players but I didn't want him getting the job YET. If he fails I'm pretty sure no fans will want his statue ripping down'"
