Of course you can separate the two.
I don't think the contract extension has helped. If people thought that he had to the end of the season they may have been more generous. But since the contract was signed it seemed to turn fans into being more urgent calling for him to go.
It's a shame really as without the contract extension it would have been an experiment that did not work. With a contract extension there would have to be a sacking or a mutual parting.
With so many old heads around the place would changing just the coach make enough of a difference?
