Shirt sales are only a revenue stream because we chose to follow the trends set by others. Besides, it's not as though people would stop buying if the home kit (at the very least) remained fixed. New fans arrive, old shirts become worn out etc.
As I said - you pay marketing gurus good money to come up with ideas - not stick with old ones.
