Quote: The Chief "Regardless of whether Walsh got injured or not, the incident has highlighted one of the major issues with SL at the moment. The RFL really need to get a grip on late illegal shots on half backs. You expect them to get a crack every now and again, it's part of the game, but how many times were half backs injured last season through shots like this? It won't be long before someone ends up with a broken jaw or cheekbone after a stray late elbow. It's not rocket science for opposition coaches to say take out the 7, they have no other playmakers. Not just saints, Wigan, Leeds, Warrington and Huddersfield all complained about it too. Give someone a 6 math ban and it would soon stop.'"
Well said. It's a game wide issue. However it's difficult to draw the line. It's going to get to a stage where a big player is injured and that club would not be happy. I also don't think Wigan are dirtier than anyone else.
The worst example of this I've seen recently was Taylor on GoB last season. GoB's back was turned and Taylor had no intention of making a tackle, purely taking the HB out. Taylor was let off wasn't he? I don't think that sends out the right message to props who are looking to hit smaller players like that.
