Many years ago I heard a story of American football coaches coming over to view our best goal kickers.
This was in the pre superleague days so rules out most of the younger posters here knowing of it first hand... any way I digress.
They attended to see our Kel, one dark damp night and as was Saints want, they would only allow the kicking to be after the game had been played. Guess it was to keep the other team in the dark as to who was our kicker ....nah, you fill in the blanks.
Anyway the kicks started about 35 yds out and went backwards to the opposite end until either the kicker missed or that there was no more free space to place the ball.

So did this ever happen ? What distance was achieved? and what do any of you old heads out there remember of this ....... comments please

Off memory I think it was around 1966. I have a feeling it was after a Castleford game but might be totally wrong with that.

Len Killeen and Kel Coslett were kicking towards the Eddington End using Grid Iron balls. I seem to recall Kel was coming back from injury at the time and thats Killeen's last kick from beyond the half way line actually went over the Eddington roof and out the ground.

I could be way off the mark with this so would be interested in other peoples memory.

Just to add

There was sometalk at the time of Kileen going to America and shortly after went to Balmain.

Best memory of Kileen was his dive over a standing Eric Ashton in a Good Friday against Wigan.

I am in agreement with you that it was against Cas ...but thought it was a bit later in the 60's but any info at this point is worth having ...Cheers

Best memory for me was of the 66 cup final kick from over the half way line agin ...(well almost) ...the touch line.
That and the ditty Roses are red violets are blue, Saints 21 wigan 2 .....well said Mr Murphy
