Worst one I've seen was John Holdsworth in the Kevin Ward 8-8 match at CP. He gave a penalty to Wigan (which they kicked) for Alan Hunte being offside at our PTB. In those days the players had to be 5m behind the PTB. Techinally the penalty was correct but I'd never seen one given before or since.

Is it a different rule if your in front of the kicker at a restart or drop out?

Yes, because that is a kick to restart play. A penalty is just a chance to win 2 points, the ball is not deemed to be out of play.

Offside at kick off is penalty on half way. Offside at drop out is penalty 10m out bang in front. Offsdie at 20 drop out is penalty on 20m line.

Offside at a penalty kick at goal is scrum to non-kicking team. Strange but true.

What's the official penalty for taking a drop out in front of the line. I know the NRL were clamping down on this but I don't know what the resultant penalty would be. I guess a penalty in front of the posts??

Mr H used to coach us when I played RL at Leeds Uni in the early '80s. One match away at Salford in the cup the ref didn't show up so he offered to officiate. We were a poor side (I believe they are much better now

) and didn't win many. With a couple of minutes to go, with the score at 8-8, they were in possession about 20m out. Mr H's eagle eyes spotted a very similar offence at the play the ball - penalty to Leeds Uni and a 10-8 victory.

How on god's earth can you have a 10 point try?

Wasn't such a good decision at CP, especially when you consider how close we were to winning the league that year.
