| In fact, one touch judge was unsighted and went with his colleagues call.
Tough call. It happens.

I've just seen it on tv and from the angle they showed it's impossible to know if it was a goal or not.
What I don't understand is your call of one of the touch judges being unsighted. That's their job to be in the right position. They have all the time in the world before the kick is taken to get their viewing angles correct.

Mr Hicks is not a good referee. The TJs we had yesterday should go on a basic course in officiating at a game.
I did see the players getting taken out, although to be fair it wouldn't have made any difference.
All credit to Saints, though for playing to the end.

| What part dont you understand exactly Rogues?
One of the officials was unsighted. The other official waved the kick away as no goal - the other (being unsighted) went with his colleague.
The referee cannot over-rule them both. If it was a one up one down situation, the referee has the casting vote, but as they "agreed", he cannot do anything but not award the points.
Mistakes happen, thats sport.
That better?

True whilst the waving away of a legitimate conversion was a very poor decision, the only way we could claim it cost us the game would have been if roles were reversed and we scored the try in the last minute to take us within a point and that conversion attempt was for the victory.
As it turned out, despite our much improved form and performance we still lack a little composure in those tight situations. Its ironic that if we had failed to score the final try and handed the ball over to you well inside your 20, we may well have hung on to win, but then we also had the chance to secure the ball from the kick off, which we didn't and to keep you out, which again we didn't.
A fantastically entertaining game though! Makes up a bit for our capitulation at Langtree Park.

| Talking of that conversion, what a kick. I never knew Gaskell could kick goals. Why has he suddenly taken over from T-Mak in the role? Last season it was Foster>Makinson>Lomax ahead of Gaskell.
Is that what he's been doing whilst not playing? Practising goal kicks? Or was Makinson carrying a knock?

There appears to be a pattern. Foster was binned to the u20s and so Lomax took over. Lomax was fantastic - at first. Then he started missing a few. So Makinson took over. Makinson was fantastic - at first. Then he started missing a few. So now Gaskell has taken over. Gaskell has been fantastic - got three out of three against whoever, and kicked them all on Sunday including that last one. Presumably if he starts to miss a few the cycle will begin again, unless we have a totally unknown kicker lurking there somewhere.

Yes I do understand that the ref cannot overrule if both touchjudges rule no goal.
The point I was making was that the touchjudge had no reason for being unsighted. He should have positioned himself too see the flight of the ball. It's a big part of his job.
It was unclear from the video whether it was a goal or not, but according to the majority on here it was, and according to one of todays Rugby newspapers (League Express?) Paul Wellens has said on his "twitter" that he believed that it was a goal.

| I've just watched it again and done a slo mo.
Touch judges got it correct. The ball is just outside the right hand post.
