| No, I'm not talking about the Lance Hohia (sp) try/no try or even the goal that clearly went over but wasn't given.
I caught the very end of the under 20's match and witnessed the strangest decision I have ever seen! Saints under 20's were trailing 32-30 and then very late on in the match were given a penalty about 35/40 metres out from the sticks, fairly central. Saints understandably opted to kick at goal and get a draw. Foster slotted over the goal, but the referee gave a penalty to Widnes for offside, saying the Saints players were stood in front of Foster when he kicked it!! A truly baffling decision as none were chasing the kick as they knew it was going over and they had earnt the draw!
Very strange decision that cost Saints the match as the final whistle went very shortly after!

Wasn't such a good decision at CP, especially when you consider how close we were to winning the league that year.

An inexperienced referee!
Our centre slid in with the knees as the other side were scoring. No problem with a penalty after the conversion but the referee had obviously heard the term '8 point try' bandied around and somehow got it into his head that it was 6 points for the try, two for the conversion and then two points for the penalty as well making a total of ten points. He wasn't having it when I tried to point out, rather calmly ( ) the error of his ways!

Absolutely. I was at that game and remember being devastated when we ended up with a draw. If I recall we had to rely on Warrington to beat or draw with Wigan, which of course they didn't. Didn't we come second on points difference?

Yes. They had Wire and Cas left to play and won them both. Tea Ropati was a guest in the studio for Sky at the Cas game and Eddie asked him how he felt as Shaun Edwards was running round with the cup, I'll never forget the look on Tea's face!!!
At least we beat them in the Premiership Final at OT. Connolly's last game for us I think.

I remember that season well, we lost to Leigh before Christmas in a terrible match which basically cost us the league. It was typical Saints of the time sadly as we then went on to give the Goons a good shellacking 41-6 at boxing day (one of my favourite ever games). Was a great season overall (Not bad for a bunch of part timers) it's just a shame we then flogged Connolly at the end of the year and went backwards ![Sad icon_sad.gif](images/smilies//icon_sad.gif)
