Definitely. But I'm not sure we will be interested. We've got Gardner, Makinson, Shenton, Wheeler and Foster contracted at the moment for next season. Hopefully we'll be looking for a replacement fullback, but I'm expecting him to be given a 3 year deal given how poorly we deal with these decisions. There is also Paddy Flynn at Widnes off contract and rumoured to be looking at either a big SL club or Union apparently as he's doing really well.

Brown was saints choice of coach for next season before a ball was kicked this year. We've not moved for brown because Royce has been sacked, we'd moved for him before that.

Royce simmons was never ever getting another deal.

McManus is a shrewd man, even if he gets plenty of unwarranted stick for being the opposite on here at times (when it comes to recruitment, that is). Like St. Pete mentioned, I was told Brown would be our coach after Simmons in the off-season. I very much doubt that he didn't cover every avenue before choosing the best of them.

I really rate brown, seems like a coach who strikes a good balance between inventive attacking play and progressive and structured defensive tactics. He also seems to have a thing for speedy rather than safe three-quarters, which tend to help on a big pitch in finals. All appears the type of 'Saints' that I like to watch, but time will tell.

I'm surprised he can remember. He's only got Hudds to one final in the years he's been with them. I can't see Saints fans being happy with us only getting to one final (and losing it) in three years!

But whilst you are (for some unknown reason) bringing it up, I'd say one final considering the squad he had when he arrived is pretty decent progress.

Saints fans invariably judge the success of a coach on the silverware he brings. That's why I'm bringing it up. He has brought none to Hudds.

Brown certainly appears to be the best UK based coach available and I wouldn't displeased about his appointment. I had a lot more concerns over Simmons. However, I'd be disappointed if one of the most prestigious clubs in the sport didn't compare his capability to other coaches who may be interested. Mr Big pulled off a stunner with Daniel Anderson and if we're going to move forward we need that kind of visionary thinking again. Brown and KC working together though must mean that we'll have a succession of great hookers coming through or we should.

But neither have a lot of coaches...?

When appointing a coach you go off what he has achieved with the squad they have had to deal with and the way that they play: Brown certainly has made Huddersfield the club they are now and they play some good rugby.

Why quote that bit of my post without the rest of it? I said that Saints fans invariably judge a coach on the silverware he brings. Brown hasn't brought any to Hudds in three years. Therefore, I can't see many Saints fans believing that to be an appropriate coach for Saints.

Personally, I'm not bothered who we appoint as they're all an unknown quantity until they get down to the job and any possible candidate will now be on notice that Saints have stupidly high expectations and are prepared to sack them seven games in following a GF appearance against all the odds. I'm sure that will attract candidates from all over the place.
