I think a good number of the "claddinggate" complaints were down to the stadium
looking unfinished and so from an aesthetic point of view the semi-permiable cladding will do the job nicely.
Also, as is stated in the design & access statement of the planning application for the new cladding, a "full sheet" cladding solution would not have been possible due to the structure not being able to support the increased wind resistance it would generate. Effectively, solid cladding would have acted like a sail and caught all the wind and place excessive stress on the stadium structure which would presumably, given severe enough conditions, have tore the stadium to pieces.
