I don't agree that MG underdelivered on his talent as a player. He may have attracted bad publicity but as a player he proved himself as one of the best centres in the world, he performed against top sides in SL, he performed against the Aussies. In overall terms he was very good rather than world class, compare him to the best centre I've seen at Warrington, Jonathan Davies, and the two had similar footwork but Davies had three yards of pace on him and that made him much more dangerous. Gleeson was never an out and out paceman and he would always be slightly limited because of that like Wellens as well. But given his natural abilities I thought Gleeson proved himself against the best and he couldn't have done any more.
The only thing he wasted was the chance to win more trophies, if he hadn't have gone gambling on that match he could have won a couple more Challenge Cups.
