He wasn't last season. This season however, he has been much improved, and is probably our only impact player from the bench these days, thanks to his much needed aggression.

| I thought Scott Moore was good last night, apart from 1 stupid pass and a stupid high tackle. He got into Crabtree every single time he got the ball! And he hit him hard too.

| We beat a very tough team last night. The result in istelf is an acheivement.
Our three props were awesome as was Roby.
Our defence was solid. It must have been 60 minutes before they even managed a clean break and could only really trouble our line with kicks. Nice to see Gaskell getting stuck in and dumping a couple of players and Wilkin showed not only a lot in the tackling department, but a lot of intellegent addtion to the defending interms of bossing the tacklers peeling off a la Wigan.
Armstrong was good apart from his one clanger. I don't imagine he'll be retained next year, but whoever picks him up could get a gem imo.
I think the problem holding back our attack is that were not comfortable with a lot of our options, so always seem to look for the same runners, compared to Wigan at the mo who seem to be able to use them all with equal proficiency.
I like Moore now. I think he adds a lot to the team despite the odd penalty or mistake. I don't think he's got the temprement to make a Hooker or Half, but in a supporting role he offers a good variety of plays.
Ashurst and Dicko gave good accounts of themselves.

| Quote meast="meast"it was last night

funny how i was saying to my brother and mates after about 20 minutes when we looked to have been the dominant team, how saints always seem to nick a try from nothing, sure enough, 2 minutes later up popped leon to score his obligatory try against us.'"
Alright bud. For me you're missing one or two forwards who have penetration up front. Defensively you're very strong but I don't see anybody who can really put the defence on the back foot with a bullocking run and quick PTB. I know Mason and Griffin can do the work but neither, for me, are front line metre makers and, in fairness, those kind of players are pretty thin on the ground these days. With the ball in hand you looked lively and creative but it felt like you had to push the pass without sufficient foundation from your forwards. Both Brough and Brown were good but without our forwards being sucked in we had the cover out wide although there were a couple of times when your handling let you down. Nathan Brown has got a lot out of what he has so throw in an equivalent Graham and Puleatua in there and it would make B&B's job that much easier and more effective.

| I thought last night was probably the best defensive display from Saints all season. And for the second week running our depleted forward pack showed what they could do when they put in the effort for 80 minutes. LMS has come on a treat in the last few weeks and James Graham probably put in his best performance of the season IMO. I didn't notice Clough too much but I was annoyed at him for getting binned as we could have done without that added pressure.
We just need to sort out the attack, which no doubt is suffering for new combinations, and once again our ball retention needs concentration. I didn't like the whiteness of Leon's shirt at the 80 minute mark but everyone else I thought put in some heroic work to keep Hudds under control.

I thought Clough was brilliant last night. His ability to make extra yards in contact to push the defence back is a big help.
You're right about the defence. It looked sharp on the edges and nice and agressive in the middle.

Leon attacked the line plenty last night for his 4th game in about 2 years. If also did his fair share in defence. Anyway, if a half back does their job they're not supposed to get dirty.

Agree with virtually all of that. It was a great effort from a depleted pack, and I was pleasantly surprised by the contribution of Ashurst. Clough is going to really shine next year in the absence of Graham, I reckon; let's just hope he can stay fit.
Having said that, I thought Huddersfield's half backs made it a little easy for our defence. Brough and Brown were reluctant to take the line on and were generally playing way too deep. In fact, their attack reminded me of ours last week.
Scott Moore still frustrates the funk out of me, though. I think he's definitely found his home in the back row, and his aggression and enthusiasm are refreshing, but he guarantees the opposition a couple of free sets and a good 50 metres of penalty territory every time he plays. He piggy-backed Hudds out of their own 20 with a totally unnecessary penalty last night when we were closing the game down (this led directly to a try for them) and got away with a blatant flop in a similar situation a few minutes later. Similar brain farts turned the game decisively in Wigan's favour in the semi last week, as well. He's clearly a very talented player, but I wish he'd engage his brain now and again.
