| As stated previously in this thread, as a club St.Helens depise Wigan, Wigan despise St.Helens. This is not about arrogance, its about history and tradition.
As a set of supporters, both St.Helens and Wigan depise Warrington. This is down to the fact they have always had a problem with attracting d**khead supporters and now two CC wins later, more and more appear to be jumping on this bandwagon.
I agree with the 'mutual respect' between Wigan and St.Helens (barring derby day of course )
On derby day, I get up feeling butterflies, go and watch a fantasticly fought nerve racking game with a brilliant atmosphere. This is exactly the same as any Warrington game.
The difference comes when en route home. After Wigan away, every year we walk back to the train discussing the game with Wigan fans, whoever loses is gracious in defeat. Home safely, no problems.
At Warrington away, its a task getting back to the station without being confronted. Theres always that feeling of nastiness in the air. If saints have won (which happened a fair bit ) you receive constant abuse. Even after the game last month, they were trying to bait all the saints fans to cause a reaction. total pr**ks.
Tbh, I'm surprised the police haven't requested a midday KO for tomorrows cup game because if Wigan win and end Warrington's 'Cup Dominance', I expect a fair bit of trouble.. hopefully all are well behaved, but I'm not holding my breath.

| Quote 21-12="21-12"Good post.
Personally, id take Saints over Wire any day of the week, in any situation, and nearly every Wigan fan I know would these days, mainly because of your points above regarding there new born attitude.'"
This is bang on.
Being brought up with Wigan RL the Wigan-Saints rivallary is bred into you but I can and will take stick off any Saints fan and respect them simply because they have won it all, they have the right to have the arrogance about them. Wire winning 2 challenge cups in sixty years and being so arrogant annoys the Sh** out of me!!!
Saints over Wire any day for me.
EDIT _ To make it clear though only only ever against Wire........... oh an the Aussies

| Quote WarringtonSaint="WarringtonSaint"I have been watching Saints for well over 40 years, have been through the period of Goon dominance, and never, ever thought I would want Wigan to win any game, especially a cup game, ever ever.......however, living in Warrington and having to listen to all the knuckle draggers bang on about how great they are, best RL team ever, having to build a new trophy cabinet, Saints are finished etc etc etc has changed my opinion for this one.
They need bringing back down to earth with a very big bang.
Posters up all over Warrington of Morley with the cup, with the caption "if you want it come and get it"
I hope Wigan do this weekend and wipe that bloody smug grin off their faces. Wire fans - no class whatsoever.
No, a loss to Wigan in a final wouldn't hurt as much as one to Warrington, and I really didn't think I would ever say that.
Hope they knock 7 bells out of each other in the process too.'"
As a pie also residing in direland I echo your sentiments. They won 11 or so games and get 2 CCs out of it !!!! we won double that last year just to get the winners shield,,,,, theyre no where near as good as they think they are.

The unfortunate part of this for us that with that younger element comes with younger drinkers which wasn't as prevenlent when saints and more so wigan started dominating, this is my theory anyway. We do have a lot of decent fans aswell as idiots as all clubs do but it is unjust to tar all with the same brush that a lot of posters on this thread have done

I live in warrington and have never had any problem beyond being given a load of stick - I even go in my local warrington mad boozer with my saints shirt on without a load of abuse.
I'm afraid I can't ever support wigoon winning against [u any[/u SL team in any competition although I do support them against the convicts.
So its wire for me and hopefully by a huge margin.
(also assuming we beat the dobbins; I'd fancy our chances in the semi's or final against dire rather than the goons having watched us against both of them recently - we were stuffed by wigoon and a tad unfortunate and dire).
