| Now this isn't a thread criticising the kid as he's clearly the most exciting thing St Helens has produced since I've been watching the game. He is an outstanding natural talent with the kind of freakish abilities that we have always lack compared to the Inglis', Slaters in the NRL. But where we play him seems to be one of the topics for debate in the league papers this week. Stevo and Schofield in particular wrote about how they don't see him working out as a scrum half, particularly when paired with another player who's game is based on running the ball. Stevo was very critical of him, saying he was static and is far too predictable to be a threat, although that could be said of our entire team at the moment.
Kyle Eastmond was by far our most dangerous player last season, the majority of it from left centre. Can you imagine how good that kid could be at fullback? Chiming into the line, returning kicks into broken field etc. It's mouthwatering.
This season I don't think we have much choice as we let Smiffy go, but do you see Kyle as a 7 long term? I'd love to see him given a go at fullback.

I think you're being a touch harsh on him there.
He's had many a good game, he's just not directed the team around like he did that day, but when you're being played as a running second rower like he has been how can you be expected to?

| Why can't Eastmond make a great scrum half? Comparing him at his age now to Lance Todd Legend at the same point in his career and it's Eastmond all the way for me. His kicking and passing game is superior to Long at the same stage and although he is a way from being the directing scrum half he has less to go than Lance Todd Legend did. In fact when Long first arrived and probably for the first four years or so the major criticism of him was in inability to manage a game and Saints around the field.
When Millward arrived it was noticeable how much Lance Todd Legend's game improved. With good coaching (and there's no reason to doubt Potter given what he did with Bosc and the Catalans half back's games) Eastmond will grow into the role. It's easier coaching that side of the game than it is improving passing, kicking and attacking the line. Certainly in the latter aspect Eastmond has that in buckets and you can't coach speed like Eastmond's either.
Eastmond and Tomkins at GB half backs for the next seven or eight years? Could be the best pairing we've seen in the modern era and will certainly be the best since Lance Todd Legend and Tommy God.

| You have to give Kyle and the other young players time to develop their games.
Even the likes of Andrew Johns werent legends at 20 years old. Infact Johns was 21 before he started to get any sort of recognition. He was helped of course in developing his game by his half back partner and older brother Mathew Johns. Infact Andrew Johns was around 24-25 before he started picking up the major player awards in Australia eg "Dally M"
