11659.jpg Phil Bentham scoured the video tape and despite conclusive evidence that Smith was a half yard offside, he allowed the try to stand.

Saints are a big-game team with bags of big-game experience. They have won five Challenge Cups from six final appearances in the Super League era and have won five Grand Finals in that time too.
Add two World Club Championships to that and you have the roll-call of the best rugby league team this country has produced in the modern-era - and it's a phenomenal record.

| Let's face facts. We have Wingers who are good enough to keep us at the top and they have been our 1st choice for 4 years now and in Ade's case a lot longer, however neither of them are anywhere near as good as Uncle Albert was. When Meli or Gardner goes we need an athletic speed merchant similar to Donald. Also I don't care where they come from, whether it be Australia, NZ or Outer Mongolia as long as they can catch, defend and give us back a long range threat which we haven't had since Albert and then Lyon left in all honesty.
If a half decent player with the slightest bit of pace gets through us we are found wanting and we can never ever get back to catch them. Look at Carvell's try vs Wire.

We are absolutely crying out for a fast winger who is also strong on defence. Its one posiiton or should I say two positions where we cannot match other teams. IMHO Riley at Warrington (even though he is still young), Richards, Donald and Fox are all well in front of them in terms of ability. Compared to a few years back Saints were a threat from 100 metres out because of our speedy players. Unfortunately teams now know we are not the quickest and thats why Ridell on Friday kept kicking it dead knowing that we would struggle to go 75 metres to get a try.

| Meli's shirt has always been in jeopardy, but Gardner's form has also been pretty alarming this season. He's still a top-class finisher and his tackling and marking are fine. But the jitters of old have returned to haunt his kick receiving. And that's a major problem if we do get through to the GF to play Leeds because they will target both ruthlessly.

I really think Riley is worth a punt if we could get him. Certainly more speed than we have and something about the lad, always gives it all. Only problem is that he can make a clanger just like anyone and some have been quite bad, but no worse than Meli. Riley is still young. Meli has no improvement in him.
