| If there was a thread for acts that I find it very hard to show any passion for, either love or hate, it would be Huey Lewis & The News.

I hate Huey Lewis & The News but that scene from American Psycho is fantastic.

Hating the beatles because they took the limelight away from The stones is hilarious.
The rolling stones are resposnible for that. If they had all died in a plane crash about 1980 they would have had a great music legacy and would have been regarded as a great band.
At least the Beatles had the good sense to break up before they become a laughing stock and a parody of a rock band and not release shoite for 3 decades.
As for not liking REM because they are miserable and not mentioning the Smiths or Morrisey at the same time is laughable.
REM were a great band and spoke to a lot of people at the time. Any band who can make people think that The one I love is a love song deserve respect.
Personally i hate any UK bands trying to be some sort of american gangstas , Garage and crooners like Jamie Cullum , Michael Buble and their copycat from the X factor'"
You can blame Yoko Ono for The Beatles splitting up.

I give you
Yellow submarine
Obladi oblada
I am the Walrus
Your mother should know
Octopus's garden
Maxwells silver hammer
Revolution #9
That's close enough to being laughing stock for me.

To be fair that is the consequence of writing music whilst doing loads of drugs and letting Paul McCartney have the pen when songs were being written.
I quite like the Walrus song reminds me a bit of Edward Lear and was apparently Lennon taking the mickey out of people trying to interpret his lyrics so was meant to be a bit of a mickey take.

Cheers.
the thing with her is, she's no better than the likes of Amy MacDonald, Rumer, to name a couple, but she made a few hormonal women cry their eyes out at the Brits in 2011, and she became a megastar. Grammys, Brits, bloody OSCARS! Please. I'm not saying she can't write, but she is bland as beige, and her voice... ugh, nails on blackboard. You can't criticise her either, else you just get told ''you don't like her because she's fat'' Emile Sande is the same, only slightly less annoying.

You would, the most "pseudo intellectual bull" song ever written with a revisionist attempt to pass it off as a micky take - yeah right love it pure gold.

so you dont think it was related to being out of their heads on Acid then. Maybe you think the stories of drug use were made up to cover up some naff songs being written.

One of my favourite stories, and kind of went to disuade the John the Messiah of Principle Lennon myth is the story of Maxwell's Silver Hammer (which I maintain is the worst song ever, worse than Black Eyed Peas, Rebecca Black or anything by Train).
John Lennon refused to have any input into it. Point blank. He hated it. But he still took a writing credit. A writing credit for something that was all Paul McCartney's doing.
Now, I appreciate they shared writing responsbility. But if you are going to storm out of a studio over something, then you don't take the credit (and money) over it.
Next line of evidence for the Beatle's myth being blown wide open, Let It Be... Naked. Take away all of Phil Spector's hard work, you have what can only be described as a musical disaster.

So by your reckoning they must have been clean when they wrote the better stuff - make your mind up.

| Not really much of a hater myself... I always find it weird the pleasure people get from dissing different artists and genres. I have my fav's, some that I like less than others but the passion it seems to drum up in folk always leaves me slightly baffled, as though the artist has tried to offend them by creating music that they don't like

| Muse have always been slightly flashy imo, their sound is built around Matt Bellamy's vituoso ability. They were touted as the new Radiohead when they first appeared but they never had the connectability, gritty, organic vibe or lyrical genius of Radiohead.

I don't hate the Beatles. I quite like Macca as a person & can drum my fingers to a couple of Wings songs. It's the adoration & worship around anything they have done which annoys & frustrates me.

I think its probably due to them being one of the most influential, innovative bands in history
Not sure of your age, but it's easy to look back and not get it.
We are so used to hearing over polished production and quick fire
instant hooks nowadays.. but then, your reference to wings.. actually, that just
has me worried

I was there for some of it, didn't get it but pretended I did because I didn't want to look like I didn't. Eventually I realised I was right afterall.
