Not really a support act but caught Swedish band Kent first on on the mainstage at Leeds 2000, they were pretty amazing and almost noone was there.
Worst... hmm, probably one of the multitude of Oasis/Manc influenced clones that seem to swagger in the pubs of most towns at some point or other.

From the very minimal gigs I've been to;

Worst - Brian Kennedy (Went to the Clannad gig as my mate had a spare ticket, and sadly I was sat next to a middle aged woman who spent the whole time with the shouting and singing and stood up)

Best - I Am Kloot (This must have been in their very early years, when they were supporting The Webb Brothers, I have liked them ever since)

Worst: I saw Andrew Sachs grandaughter and her friends perform a burlesque act before a My Vitriol gig

Off the top of my head , Suicide ,Specials and the Slits all supporting the Clash at different gigs.
One of the worst, Joy Division supporting John Cooper Clarke

Wow I am very surprised to see Joy Division on the worst list. I thought most people who saw them loved them? out of interest why were they so bad? Much love to John Copper Clarke and still doing the rounds today.

My Vitriol.. I had forgotten about them! I actually got into Leeds Festival with a My Vitriol artists pass many years ago and had people asking for my autograph... which kind of made me smile as I am not sure any of the band look remotely like me!! are they still going? Remember they were touted as something special around the time Coldplay, Muse, JJ72 were doing the rounds.

There playing a gig in London in May(?) but they havent released any material since 2008 and the only have album they released came out in 2000 so they are a strange act!

Seen too many decent support acts to mention, but the worst must be those who backed Metallica a few years back at the MEN.

The Sword, stereotype heavy rock band. 2 verses, mind numbing 5 minute guitars followed by 3rd verse. Think Spinal Type with guitar stance. Next up, Machinehead, whose set consisted of song, yo Manchester, song, yo motherf$$$$$$s, yo ......ad nauseum. Thankfully, Metallica were a wonderful surprise.

Just remembered a great support act Bob Log III. Supported Franz Ferdinand in Bradford in around 2005. Also The Kills supported that night so overall a good night. Not sure how that slipped my mind

Superb band

The two that pop into my head are Bon Iver supporting Iron and Wine in London in 2007/8 I think and Three Trapped Tigers supporting Deftones last month.

Best that I can remember were Delphic supporting Orbital in Sheffield a few years back.

Worst has to be the band supporting New Order at Manchester Apollo last year. Enough kit on stage to launch a mission to Pluto, and all they could manage was a repetitive dirge that didn't go anywhere, even though the drummer worked his backside off. It seemed to be only one track too. Awful. Can't remember the band name, and would only want to know it so I could avoid them in future.

Best support act would have to be Kings Of Leon when they supported The Music at Blackpool Empress Ballroom. This was back before they got styled and went downhill.

As for worst, theres been a few! But I'd have to say BRMC when they supported Oasis at Finsbury Park. Was really gutted but they were terrible. They've got better now though hence going to see them tomorrow

Polysics supporting Kaiser chiefs in Leeds in 2005/6. Never had the chance to see them live since but they're an amazing band.

A few year ago I saw Example (2nd Support) and Professor Green (1st Support) at a Plan B gig at Sheffield Leadmill.

I had a spare ticket and couldn't even give it away!

Now that was some bill!

I wonder what the pecking order would be now?

Early seventies went to see Mott the Hoople at Leeds Town Hall. Support was Queen. Never 'eard of em.
