Happens all the time, men being made to look like idiots so the woman can come along and save the day. I don't know if this is because they're trying to appeal to the women so much to get them to purchase their goods, by appealing to their inner 'all men are idiots' moods, or, if it is just revenge like you say.
There was a classic one a few years back for a cleaning product, that made cleaning 'so easy, even a MAN can do it', featuring a man with a very puzzled look on his face. Wasn't sexist towards men though, it was sexist towards women because it was implying that 'cleaning is a woman's job'. I'm all for gentle ribbing between sexes, but i'm sure if the roles were reversed, and women were made to look as daft as the men do, the adverts wouldn't get on air. Modern day ''feminism'' has a lot to answer for
