The thing is, when you think about it, there weren't that many new cars on the road, there wasn't access to cheap finance, there weren't as many cars being manufactured and there was no incentive to change your car because there wasn't an MOT (although there probably was when that photo was taken) and the MOT was soooooo simple to rig - I used to have an old Austin 1300 that failed an MOT one year because it was literally rusted right the way through, the body basically wasn't fastened to the chassis anymore - all I did was take it to a garage where a mate of mine knew the bloke who did the testing and he passed it, no questions asked, £10 for a drink for him.
If you bought a car you bought a used one, you could easily get insurance and it was cheap, maintenance was easy because engines and brakes were so simple that even a dolt like me understood how they worked, the only downside was that a one year old car would already be rusting underneath the wings and if you drove a ten year old one like I did your best friend became chicken wires and a product called Plastic Padding, when that Austin of mine finally bit the dust the guy who bought it for scrap would have been severely disappointed as most of the body was fibreglass by the time I'd finished with it.
And brown cars, how the fook can brown cars look new - they look twenty years old when they're still in the showroom.

And, yes, those cars did always look that bad, or at least that brown.'"
You've got me curious now
So I've enlarged the image but it not very good quality and the picture resizing in RLFans has compressed the shape of the car, when you see it in the original photo I can see where you get the Daimler from now, but it could also be a Volvo, possibly a 240 ?

I did wonder if it was,not many clues though
To be honest most of the time I spent in there was a bit hazy, I came home from college well plastered most Mondays.

I can see why it could be a Volvo but that was a bit boxier. IMO this has the look and size of a Jag.
