Smith does not have the kicking game to be a fullback in Union. Not by a long way, grand final 40/20 aside. So your left with him on the wing. He is Quick but not overly quick as G1 takes great delight in mentioning everytime he doesn't outpace someone

What he does bring you is excellent footwork and the ability to shrug off a tackle in open field, as well as being excellent in the air most of the time. All attributes that suit his game to RL, I don't think he'd be an International RU player by a long way.

By the same token, Armitage would be average at RL at best IMO.

I'm lead to believe Danny Care is on 70k from Quins, whether he gets bonuses for internationals or not I don't know. Remember that when he signed the contract aged 19, 70k a year was alot of money.
