Most of those German players today are at least three generations removed from WWII, to put it another way there will be German players in that team who's grandfathers were born AFTER WWII.

I once spent two weeks in France in 1970 with a group of German teenagers who were very confused and upset over the treatment they received from the French people, there we were 24 years hence from "the war" with young people who weren't born until ten years after it, and they were still taking abuse for their fathers sins - christ knows what any German under the age of 80 thinks when some moron with his face painted in red and white runs up to them and starts singing the dambusters theme out of tune in their face.
