I don't think anyone wants to lose Walker if it were possible to keep him but the salary cap makes managing a squad so difficult that his retention given his injury record is sadly really difficult now.

Jack would always have to agree to any deal as he has a contract with us next year.

No disrespect to Walker but I am hoping he signed for Hull before suffering his injury. Based on Hodgson's comments, this could be the case, albeit it could simply be me reading too much into his statement regarding not playing for Hull again this season.
