| We've been complaining about how the 'rebuild' is going on forever. We can't be always looking to two years to the future when Walker might be the real deal and Hardaker and Myler are gone. If we keep thinking that way we'll always be two years away.
The fact we're up to the cap tells us that some awful decisions have been made with respect to contracts, as even if everyone was fully fit we're way behind Sts. We need to strengthen where we're weak - notably prop - and if that means losing some players due to the cap sobeit. We'll have to do this more than perhaps we'd like because there are some players who must be on a lot more than they could get elsewhere and so won't move.

| Quote: Sal Paradise "JJB had a similar injury record but we didn't palm him off and that turned out OK. We might well have young players in the squad but the likes of Thompson, Donaldson, Dwyer, Hardaker etc are getting picked now most weeks. How many young players are actually getting picked especially in the backs? Newman is suspended so we play Martin in the centre - hardly giving a young player a chance?'"
I understand the comparison with JJB, but they aren't like-for-like. JJB's game wasn't based on speed. His injuries, if I remember correctly, we're mainly to his legs. But it didn't have a huge impact on his strengths of work rate and power. Walker's game is based on speed and elusiveness. The injuries are more likely to have impacted on this. Also, the club hasn't just palmed Walker off. They've supported him through his injuries, as they should, and sent him out on loan at a time when he isn't playing for us.
Personally, I want Leeds to be back at the top challenging for trophies. A part of doing that is having a full back who can exploit broken fields and link play. For me, Walker isn't that player. The sentiment of him being one of our own shouldn't overrule what's best for the team to progress

Also Everyone says that about JJB but most of his injuries were when he was academy A team player, once he broke through into first team he was pretty consistently injury free bar obe bad one towards the end of his career.
Walker is far more injury prone than JJB ever was.

| Also Walker's injuries have happened after he had already established himself as our first choice full back and got a contract upgrade. He has become a more expensive bit of salary cap than JJB was at that stage of his career.
I don't think anyone wants to lose Walker if it were possible to keep him but the salary cap makes managing a squad so difficult that his retention given his injury record is sadly really difficult now.

I’d suspect he’s not even above the mid earners in the squad in terms of salary. One thing that this does bring to light, though, is how awful our recruitment is. We now have 3 full back in the squad. We’ve been consistently getting things wrong for approaching ten years.

To be fair Myler has only become a full back because of Walkers injury record.

True that. He was signed as McGuire’s replacement!
Hardaker covers whole backline and we couldn’t let an opportunity like that slip when he became available unexpectedly…..

Be end of season if they want him now. Think Leeds have decided his future lies elsewhere…….

I understood, perhaps wrongly, that the right to buy clause expired imminently (this week?). After that time, there was no automatic right, in that we (and Jack of course) would need to agree, or not. Is this right?

Jack would always have to agree to any deal as he has a contract with us next year.
This fixed term right to buy sounds like a load of cobblers to me.
A deal could be done at any time or he could stay with us next year.
