| Quote: Sal Paradise "Schofield played in a different era when he was one of the few full time players - well he didn't have another job!!
To be his was the Graham Hick of RL - a flat track bully - I cannot remember him having a dominant game in a match that really mattered i.e. a final or a deciding test.
On Walker it must be difficult playing under a coach that has no idea about attacking structure - every play is off the cuff, how is a full back supposed to fit into that type of non-structure.'"
That last paragraph is very accurate.

It's not accurate at all, its hyperbole because we are going through a bad patch.
Are you conveniently forgetting our full back won the MOS in 2015 under the same 'useless' coach?

| Quote: BrisbaneRhino "Actually I'm more having a pop at those who back every kid who plays a handful of decent games as the new messiah. I think Walker has a lot of potential but if you're being honest this year he hasn't done much apart from the odd highlight. Injuries or not he's scored just 2 tries since his debut in 20 games from last year to this. Golding has managed more than that. Lets be honest, neither of them have the influence of a really top class full back yet.
I know the game has changed a lot, but easily the best 18-year old I've seen in England was Garry Schofield. He was a far, far better player at 18 than either Walker or Golding. Now he was a once in a generation player. Like I say, its the overhyping that gets me.'"
i somewhat agree with the first paragraph, there is too much hype regarding Walker specially on social media where there is outrage if he does not play especially if Golding does. but i remember seeing Golding against the Aussie schoolboys before he had played first team, and he was dynamite and the Aussies though so too, he has stuttered to get really going at first team but still think he will be very very good. Walker looks great but so did Francis cummins Paul cook vasilakopoulouss and a few others at 18 Sutcliffe too. whether he kicks on who knows, i hope they both do and both at Leeds.
comparing anybody to schofield at 18 is harsh, he was already one of the best players in England at that age, and is more than a once in generation player he is a once in a lifetime player, he is one of the best players all time.

Hardaker won MOS primarily due to his defensive efforts and his ability to break the line - neither of which had anything to do with the ability of McDermott to coach attacking structures.

Are you conveniently forgetting how much Hardaker’s attacking play improved at Cas?
Other than his broken field threat he was pretty much ineffective in attack when he played for us. We never showed once how to work at creating space for him to exploit.

| beat me to it. long range trys. he never chimed in to create like he did at cas.
that side was perfect for McDermott to coach. this set of players isn't. it cries out for structure and shape and organisation

This side is crying out for some prop forwards to be fit and on the pitch

That I can agree with. It’s noticable how Parcell is being criticised at the moment from some. A dummy half’s capability is significantly reduced when the forwards are constantly losing the collisions

| Whoever said Schofield was a flat track bully must be having a laugh. 37 tries in his debut season for Hull, scoring and setting up great tries on the 1984 tour vs Australia aged 19, 4 tries in a test vs New Zealand, captaining an understrength GB team to a 3-0 series over NZ, the 33-10 Melbourne test, etc etc. He underperformed for Leeds but lack of ability was never the problem. The only reason I raised him was as an actual example of a 'once in a generation' player, as that was the term someone (or more than one) has used to describe Walker.
I just dislike the overhyping, because it puts ridiculous pressure on young lads.

| As I said when did he put in a serious performance in a cup final or a deciding test against the Aussies - he never stood up to be counted when it really mattered - beating the Kiwis - plenty of GB players have managed that
All the things you have just stated are flat track bullyism - how many medals did he win?

The chances of Leeds losing are pretty remote - on here there is always much more post match comment than pre match - so don't take it personally.

| Scoring and setting up tries against Australia is flat track bullying? Four ties in a test? I think your definition of a flat track bully needs checking.

I note that your ability to talk out of the wrong orifice has now progressed to Gotcha standards. Take a bow.
