| Quote: Juan Cornetto "Of course it was disappointing to lose especially after we had fought back to move 11 points in front. However looking at the wider picture all the games we have lost or drawn recently could have gone either way with just a drop goal the difference sometimes, which shows we are close to getting things right.
The lack of our big men in the middle is having its toll now and we have missed the size of Garbutt and Galloway all year with Ward, Peteru and Cuthbertson missing for a lot of the time too.
Also you should factor in that in the absence of the above key players has meant the back row have been taking on the opposition heavy men in defense as well as attack for some weeks now and will be jaded at the least which is why Parcell has not been in his usual form. Long term injuries to Keinhorst and Sutcliffe and Ferris has meant we could not rotate the back row as we would have liked and therefore for some to write off JJB, Ablett and Delaney is to misread the situation.
You cannot expect players to return from long term injuries in fine form, the lack if match fitness will mean their speed, stamina and timing will be off the mark.
We have key players Moon and Cuthbertson who have been lacking their best form and perhaps fitness. The former was our best player last year and the latter did not make one offload against Warrington last night and both JJB and Singleton made far fewer tackles than usual so may not have been fully fit.
On the plus side the attitude and never say die attitude is still there and several youngsters have stepped up to the plate in the absence of the regulars so all is not bad news. With a return of Garbutt a replacement for Galloway and some form to return to the key players then we could get on a winning roll in time for the business end of the season.
On a technical point our forwards are not putting the opposition on their backs an slowing down the ruck which allows them quick play the ball and the all important momentum. What has been noticeable is that the opposition are turning us on our backs and slowing down the ruck. This was the main reason last night for the big metres gained by Warrington and for most of their tries.
I would like to see Walker have a run at 6'"
Age ,leg weary miles & the sheer "over-use" have caught up with the latter 3 just as much if not more than the lack of Garbutt etc.
To completely ignore those factors is just as much a mis-reading of situation especially when our rotation is very minimal when everyone is fit.
Just because certain players can and have done huge minutes over the years it doesn't mean that should continue into their latter years and eventually it will catch up with them.
Also in Delaneys case he's an injury waiting to happen again through over playing him and rushing him back when not fully fit.
In terms of match fitness the dual reg is in place yet certain players seem above it just as they do wrt dropping them for other players.
The score-lines in certain games may suggest we're close but performances show imo we are further off than you suggest.
We haven't maintained a full 40 minutes of performance yet this year and other teams are wise to it and good enough to exploit it.
Ferres has been a very poor signing and his selection is pointless send him to fev for 3 weeks and then reassess imo.

| On the plus side myler has been an excellent signing. Initially I wasn’t that impressed with his signing. Fortunately I have been proved wrong. He is playing the best rugby of his career. Also this present team show a high degree of resilience.

I’ve said it before, but a Myler / McGuire HB combo would have been very good. Both play what’s in front of them and take it to the line. Shame we didn’t sign him a year earlier instead of going for the cheap option and moving Moon.

| Good result for us with Cas losing at Hull, Cas may struggle for a while without Gale. Our game with them at Magic is looking like a key one now, must win it.

| Write the Rhinos off yet again at your peril
SL sides are currently 5h1te compared to previous seasons when all of the big boys were all littered with top class players across the board
IMO there are no sides to be feared throughout the comp and any side that even scrapes into the top 4 play offs has as much chance of winning the GF as a side winning the comp by a landslide margin
We just need to pick some wins up to even out the league table going into the play off split to give us a realistic chance

True that. Not taking anything away from wire, they were decent enough last night, but that team isn't a patch on the one they had half a dozen years ago.

I dunno. It's not far off....unlike 2010-12 this team isn't aged barr a couple...and the team that is least exposed...so much improvement still to come....with Saints they are flat out and totally exposed. There's improvement still in the Pies too as they seem to be wining games to the second 40.

Add to that that Peteru was making his comeback after a long term injury and would not have been match fit, as is Ferris, and you have a different picture.'"
If everyone is fit Delanney doesn't play and Galloway isn't there and isnt going to replaced, Ferres has had 3 years to get fit and it hasn't happened and as I said if he is fit Delanney doesn't play. Injured players are pretty much match fit these days when they come back. So as I said Garbutt is the only missing player - that squad has too many old players: Delanny, Ferres, Ablett, Cuthbertson, JJB and way too many average players: Mullally, Walters, Ormondroyd - it lacks quality.

I beg to differ. Delaney (one n) when fit will always be in the 19 and this season as in the past has commanded a starting position on merit and would be picked ahead of Ferris on current form. Galloway is a big loss in the middle and has not been replaced yet due to a lack of quality currently available and perhaps to allow the chance for the likes of Ormandroyd and Oledzki to develop, however neither of these are ready yet and so I expect to see a replacement for Galloway at some stage.
So it is a bit ingenuous to suggest we were just one short of our best side on Friday. As I said so far this season JJB, Ablett and Delaney have not only fulfilled their back row tasks but also covered the middle ground against the oppositions big men for most of the time without having Ward, Ferris, Keinhorst or Sutcliffe available to give them a rest.. This has understandably now taken a temporary toll. JJB has been our most energetic player this season and until last night was our top tackle in almost every game

We have played the majority of matches lacking at least two of our starting props and in some games without our first four choices at the start of the season. You cannot just dismiss this as not having a major effect. Playing without so many big men puts a huge amount on their replacements and in particular our regular 3 back rowers with Delaney and JJB sometimes starting at prop and with Ablett have had to take on the opposition big guys head on in both defence and attack.
JJB, Delaney and to a lesser extent Ablett have been outstanding so far this season despite their age and that they may now being in need of a rest is no surprise and little to do with their age. Ward since overcoming his injury has stepped up in defence but he too will soon need a break despite his young age!
Delaney has had an unfortunate run of injury as has young Ward, which is perhaps more to do with his all-in style of play.
I agree with you about Ferris who has shown none of his previous form for Leeds so far.
Since Sinfield retired I have been advocating the need for a class game manager at 6. Myler has been a very good signing but we still need a 6 especially now it seems Moon will be returning to Oz next season.
We also need a replacement for Galloway and a quick back rower with a football brain like Livett of Warrington.
