It's words, that's all.. sticks and stones and all that. There are things that are acceptable to be said and done in different environments and as a parent, it's my job to make sure my kids know what is appropriate and when. Kids don't need to be wrapped in cotton wool all the time.
There are lots of things that go on in the real world that I wouldn't want my kids to do and there's no way I can stop them from witnessing a lot of it, but what I can do is teach them to make informed decisions on what is right and wrong. If you're relying on everyone else to behave in an acceptable manner for fear of them being influenced or to stop your kids behaving badly, you've lost the battle already.
I'd say anyone who has followed the game on this forum since a child and into adulthood has heard and seen much worse over the years (particularly 20/30/40 years ago when racism/homophobia etc were almost the norm), yet not been scarred or had their behaviours influenced by it. We're not all racist, homophobes because we heard some nasty chanting at the rugby. (By no way am I suggesting racism/homophobia is acceptable by the way).'"
unfortunately the conduct and rhetoric and behavior from a certain person across the pond is making what we called unacceptable normal .

I do object to swearing (repetative and full throttle rather than the occasional exasperated utterance) throwing stuff at players and pathetic attempts to intimidate opposition fans and players. RL is promoted as a family sport and as such needs to maintain a family friendly environment. I believe on the whole our sport does that, and long may it continue.'"
100% agreed.

That my friend is a whole different bag of crazy...
Though again, I'd like to think my kids are balanced enough from our parenting to understand that the rhetoric spouted by a rather odd ego maniac does not impact on their beliefs and view on the world - regardless of how powerful and successful he may be.
I'd also hope that as they mature they can look at all things objectively, and separate the BS social media agenda or outrage on pretty much everything in life and make their minds up on whats actually happening in tje world based on their own moral code, not the social media perception.
It's a crazy world nowadays - the only people I trust to influence my kids in the right way are me and my direct family and my kids know that - so everyone else can do and say as they please.

Its not about Snowflakery, its about setting an example to younger generations of fans. Are you happy that kids (under 12's) are exposed to this type of environment, with out challenge, to accept it as the norm?'"
The word 'chav' is far more offensive to me than anything you will hear fans sing at a RL game. You are basically disregarding a whole section of society based on their background.
And obviously when I say I hate wigan I am talking in sporting terms, again if you can't separate that from hating say war or organised crime, then it is you who has the mental problem my friend.

Pretty much the point I was making, unfortunately some people can't distinguish between throwing things at players and singing about them.

So you didn't see the Leeds fans throwing things at the Wigan players at kick off?
btw It was the Leeds club who provided those small plastic rugby balls.

Not me with any mental issues. I am not the one trying to justify the context of my words.

like a brass band and stealing a Leeds United song, that kind of embarassing. Headingley isn't even IN Leeds.

There is a pretty big crossover of Rhinos and United fans, so really just stealing from ourselves, and if Old Trafford is in Manchester then Headingly Stadium is in Leeds (it is a Leeds postcode and you can easily walk into the centre of town, in fact it is probably not much further from LS1 than Elland Road)
As for the brass band, I understand the criticism and it isn't needed in the big games imo, but can help keep some atmosphere in boring games against teams we don't care about

So if Headingley in Leeds you don't get much less Leeds than LS6 and what about all the other suburbs that your kin will have been round tatting in hull caravans ?

You’re so wrong on the ‘throwing’ incidents it’s untrue. I probably had the best view in the ground. I was about 5 yards up from the front wall on the Western Terrace slap bang in the middle of the posts. A number of small sponge Rugby Balls has been given out to fans around the ground. At kick off the Leeds fans threw them at our players and in the second half our fans threw them at yours. It was all friendly banter with players smiling and the Stewards not batting an eyelid (but then again they didn’t bother with the streaker either).
If you want the absolute truth, far more of these balls were thrown at our players pre kick off then at yours in the second half but I think that’s because our own fans were also throwing them at our players. As I say purely just people having a laugh and no harm done.
I can’t comment on the post match abuse other then to say I heard Wane saying he’d had numerous threats from Leeds fans saying they’d fill him in post game. He seemed to quite enjoy it but if that’s sort of stuff is being thrown about and a couple of the younger lads responded then it’s not overly surprising. They should have the sense to rise above the morons but said morons shouldn’t get upset when they get a few verbals back.
