Quote: Sal Paradise "The rules of golf are very complex and not an exact science - they are open to interpretation. You are effectively saying Woods is a cheat which I personally believe to be incorrect. He made an understandable error for which he was penalised - the 4 shots he lost at that one hole - the two for the penalty and the two because of the ball hitting the flag and going in the water cost him the win.'"
This sums it up for me. I said the same last night elsewhere.
The shot he hit that pitched full on the flag was near perfect. He would have walked off that hole at -6 and leading. Instead he had to play catch up for the rest of the tournament and he made a few errors. If I were Tiger I wouldn't be overly bothered because he did play well enough to win. I wouldn't be surprised to see him add 1 or 2 more majors to his name this year anyway.
He didn't cheat either. It was a simple mistake. If you go out of bounds, the rule is you can take a drop within 2 club lengths, no nearer the hole. When he dropped he probably had that in mind even though the circumstance wasn't the same. He was heavily penalised for that 1 shot anyway and it has cost him his 5th Green Jacket.
