The season starts in October. Until then, don't panic!: |
|
| Men against Boys tonight.....and the Boys won
Stevo didn't seem to enjoy Leeds winning, but hey ho
Tonight reminded me of playing football when I was younger with the 'Goalie when needed' rule where anyone went in goals. Tonight Leeds played 'Hooker when needed'
Nice to see Webb back, and he clearly enjoyed it.
Well done. Bring on the Scousers.

It worked didn't it! If we play that good without a 'recognised' hooker, how good will we be when we have Disko and Buderus fit?
Thought we out played, out thought and out muscled Wigan tonight. Though the two disallowed tries for Wigan going the other way and it could have been alot closer.
Word of the season, defence.

| Great effort by the boys tonight i expected a tougher game tbh but when we turned the heat up the pies(including skeletor) couldn't handle it!
Again our youngster's stood up and our centre's put in another strong display imo great to see webb back and what footwork from kylie
Roll on next week.

Quality wise it was a very, very poor Wigan outfit tonight. Leeds were a bit better but jeez how long is it going to take to get a decent game of Rugby League on this season. Early days and I'm really not that bothered as long as the results alright but it would be nice to see a quality game sometime as well.
As for the centres, Gibson is offering very little. No pace, no size, no power, no presence and no comparison between him and Watkins. It should be easy to see why Gibson has struggled to get much of a run for such a long time even when available. Watkins was loose tonight with a few handling errors but shows glimpses of what he could be and if he keeps himself fit and grounded he will have a big future, hopefully with Leeds.
I note when Lee Smith went to three late on he over-read a Wigan play that allowed Hock to get on his outside for a walk-in. A shame because his dummy half work in his first stint meant Diskin, Buderus and McShane weren't missed.

They were poor because we made them look poor imo tvoc.
I honestly don't see what the problem is with gibson mate he's still coming back from a long time out and imo put a good effort in tonight!!

| I thought we were much better tonight. best we've been in all the circumstances. Still a way off our best and that can only be good.
I thought Gibson was solid in the right centre. One particular piece of clever centre play should have had a better Finish from Donald as Gibson drew the centre and Ainscough and put Donald away with a peach of a pass. Donald let Ainscough turn and tackle him into touch.
Couple of sloppy handling errors from Watkins but over-all none of our threequarters were outmatched by the threequarters Wigan have signed from the NRL.

Possibly because they play for a semi competent Wigan team on that showing.
Perhaps it's time for Noble to add a ball to some of their training sessions.
Don't get me wrong I love it when Leeds smash Wigan but I also like Wigan to show up, where were they tonight.

I agree mate. You give me faith in Leeds fans.
We had a team choc full of forwards, JJB did not play hooker, and they were soft cock down the middle. They hardly graced our half let alone our red zone for most of the 1st half. We did play a very composed game with killer instinct without the need for recognised 9.
We were good up the middle they were poor. Our tries came from Sinny to Kylie, Burrow kick to Hall, Ali offloaded to someone well too. Hardly say it was Gibson and Watkins who unlocked them and won us the game. Watkins still looks a prospect and Gibson still seems short of fitness, I was watching him between play.
Not trying to be harsh but the way they played up the middle and the way we did I think we would have won with Allan and ratu in the centre tbh.

That is a good point, not every try finished by a winger is necessarily the result of good centre play. All four winger's tries tonight owed nothing to their centre's service out wide.
