You could also make a strong argument that its Don Revie's Leeds Utd anthem* and bears no relevance to the current excuse for a football team in the city, its sung without reference to LUFC any more and its about the most successful sporting team the city has ever seen.

*Speaking of course as one who was there at the time and still has the white silk "Super Leeds" scarf to prove it icon_biggrin.gif

I may be wrong , but , I had the vinyl record of this song when I was a kid . IIRC one song was Leeds,Leeds,Leeds , and the other side was Glory , Glory Leeds United . As I said , I may be wrong , but I am almost sure there wasn't one called Marching On Together on the original single .

Are there any teams in SL that have a totally original song as their main matchday anthem ? And by original I mean the tune AND the lyrics specifically written for their team .

Quote: glp "I Agree its a football song and always will be - and will be associated with leeds united more than Rhinos we have just hi jacked it - but when the drum beats in the south stand the lambs will start to sing it , leeds rhinos sell it now as the leeds anthem because it suites them , i refuse to sing it and it seems to me its only a core holding in the middle of the stand that sing it any way , know one round ne sings it'"

It's been sung by Leeds RL fans for many years, a long time before the band turned up at Headingley and along time before it was played over the tannoy system.

It really is worth keeping . Even if it is only kept so that it is played at the final whistle at Old Trafford . I am sure there are people out there that will agree with me .

“You are playing a game of football this afternoon but more than that you are playing for England, and more even than that, you are playing for right versus wrong. You will win because you have to win. Don’t forget that message from home. England expects every one of you to do his duty.”:1230.gif

It's nice to have a song to join in with that doesnt include offensive and/or childish language

The Delaney song is ok I suppose but the Peacock song is just plain stupid, sounds like some playground thing that a 12 year old thought up.

Soon we will be dancing the Fandango FROM 2004,TO DO WHAT THIS CLUB'S DONE,IF THATS NOT GREATNESS THEN I DONT KNOW WHAT IS. JAMIE PEACOCK:

The Senior song was my favourite, when he scored the" doo der dooder" used to start and work up to the lyrics in full volume, and you could tell Keef used to love it

Apparently JP quite likes it. My mate asked him about when he did a QnA in pudsey. He said Lee Smith always brings it up.

Glad this pointless argument has popped up again. Really. Few terrace chants are original to the club where they are sung, and it doesn't really matter. It isn't just the core around the band that sing it, I was singing along in the old Paddock in the late 80s.

At least from this latest incarnation of the MoT thread we have learned that Lee Smith is apparently not a swallower..... I don't think I needed to know that though.

I personally would class myself as a leeds united(home season ticket holder and 10-15 aways) fan and more of a casual leeds rhinos fan(go as many times as finances allow)

personally the song to me represents the togetherness of a club and at the moment and for the last 10 years or so the rhinos represent that far more Leeds united

Quote: Wulfad "Yes and When The Saints Go Marching In is clearly an American gospel song, which should only be sung in churches and Old Faithful should only be perfomed by men dressed as cowboys.'"

…and the Liverpool fans who sing “You’ll never walk alone”. Even Gerry and the Pacemakers didn’t even write it. I didn’t know Liverpool fans were such huge fans of Rodgers and Hammerstein or wanted to join gospel choirs.
