RIP Sir Jimmy

He was an eccentric larger than life character whom everyone had a great affection for and he will be very sadly missed. I would love to know how much money he has raised for charity throughout his life?

Us Loiners are truly proud to call you one of our own

According to some sites, he raised £40 million for charity. That's impressive.

Quote: Juan Cornetto "RIP Jimmy.

My dad taught him at school at a similar time to Peter O'Toole.

I remember him at the Leeds Mecca, (the one in the arcade) in the 60's. You could go in at lunchtime and have a sandwich, hear the latest singles and rub shoulders with members of the great Leeds United team that regularly went there after training.'"

I remember that period too

RIP Sir Jim.

Leeds lad done good. Used to love seeing him when I worked at the flying pizza. Always a kind word, a handshake and plenty of banter. A true one off.

It really brings home our mortality when people, characters and stars synonymous with your youth pass away.....bumped into him a couple of times when living near Roundhay Park. A great man.

I knew a couple of folk that worked at the station and as a result of his 'Age Of The Train' adverts from the 70s, Savile had a v.rare 'Gold Card' that effectively allowed him to go where and when he liked for nothing.

This didn't stop him having a laugh and joke with the staff, who otherwise were having a hard day and generally cheering everyone up. The sort of bloke that the staff used to look forward popping by (unlike some other arrogant deceased local 'celebrities' that I could mention)

It is also worth remembering that whenever he had some spare time, he'd pop down the LGI and shove a few trollies around as a voulenteer porter too.
