Think we will need his QS on a prop ,unless Martin goes too

Does the retirement of Richie Myler mean we have some cap space to play with this season? I think the rumours of the time were that we were contributing to his salary at York this year.

If that’s correct it would be interesting to see what (if anything) we do with that space. Hopefully one of the Journos will ask the question.

Iirc sky said we were about 300k below wigan/ saints on cap spend ? Or was that just money spent ( including coaching staff wtc)

If we have any spare cash and contemplating adding to the squad ,I would prefer waiting to see how the season unfolds. We may well be looking at a new coach territory at the season end.

We are spending 2.7 million.

So we are 300-400k under the cap + fusi, Donaldson and maybe Martins wages back.

That's enough for two world class forwards and a winger + extra.

The cap is around £2.1m

So I assume the difference in money is from marquee/ academy exemption stuff ?.

I suppose the thinking is, if only 8 teams can spend the full cap, why increase it.

Absolutely and it’s why the game has gone downhill over here in recent years. Held back by too many clubs which can’t spend the cap.. it’s not worked either way in its current state as it’s still the same clubs winning the major trophies but with a lower standard now overall. The cap needs increasing

Also worth considering, do the RFL like it like this? Clubs are not too powerful. No one spoken of breakaway franchise since Koukash left……
