It aint their fault that they're no good.
The biggest problem for England is the pi$$ poor midfield. Individually, Gerrard and Lampard are two of the best midfielders in the world, yet as a collective group, the midfield doesn't rank in the top 10 in the tournament. When the defence has the ball, it decides to hoof it up to Rooney or the other striker as the midfield will lose it.
The best English winger is currently on holiday somewhere, when he should be in South Africa. He also has the coveted left foot which England have been searching for for a million years.
The lack of decent strikers that are English is frightening. Rooney isn't fully fit, and he wasn't towards the end of the season, that's why he's playing poorly. However, he is that important for United and England he is forced to play as neither side has anyone else who can do his job. I know he's been poor, but he's still better than the alternatives - if the above mentioned best winger was in the side, Rooney would have scored a few because he would have had some of the service he gets from Valencia at United, therefore his poor performances will be forgotten.
England will get the win against Slovenia, then everything will be all right until they meet Serbia or Germany.
