| Jordan Dezaria is out of contract at Catalans, I think. He'd be a great signing.

| We should be looking into bringing in a forward mid-season, given a few of the exits (e.g. Myler and Olpherts).
How about an experienced pack leader (beefier version of Prior), or a an aggressive line-breaking backrower to come on from the bench?
One of Smith's mates from the Queensland Cup if we're on a budget could fit the bill...

We don’t have a quota spot

| Going back to wingers. I think there are plenty of good quality domestic options, even at the younger end. If you look at the top top clubs, theyre not using a quota on a winger, with the exception of Miski who would have been cheap at the time and Ikavalu who I think is playing more centre.

In that basis Jason Qareqare could make sense and his brother is at Leeds. He was at Headingley today watching the academy match and with a couple of Leeds lads (although they will all know each other from juniors).

He is one that comes to mind. I wouldn’t be against Hanley either tbh if Leigh don’t want to keep him. More established Yaha seems on the outers at Catalan and would do a job and allow us to focus wage and quota in more high impact areas.

| I’d still be happy with one new first grade quality winger and a really good prop or second row depending on whether Martin stays.
Whoever comes in now has to be better than whoever they’re replacing basically. We also need just a different type of forward, someone who can make most contact metres and make the opposition worry.

| Just look at the back row options Saints have got:
Sironen
Matautia
Knowles
Batchelor
Bell
Whitley
And a few young lads behind them.
Great mix of impact and workrate.
We're miles off that level of depth.
Their prop options aren't bad either....
And look at Wigan's depth in the pack, particularly props.
We're spending up to the cap, but don't really seem to have decent depth anywhere across the squad.

I’d say we have depth in the back row, the issue is that they’re nearly all the same type of high work rate player. Which is then compounded by the lack of true punch in the front row.

Exactly. If it was me (obvs it isn’t), I’d have Martin, McDonnell, and one big horrible thing that can bend the line and whack in D. Goudemand and Bentley are good players but neither is massively better than Donaldson and all three offer very little going forward.
This is a criticism I do have of RS, he’s too keen on signing nice guy players and takes his eye off the best team composition sometimes.

I honestly don’t think their fans would be happy with any of our players to slot into their match day squad. They could actually realistically argue that too!

Fully agree. I think one of the issues we have is that we lack homegrown talent down the spine and in the back row which is where you have to spend big. Saints have some top homegrown talent there so they can spend big in the pack.

Their academy is very good so produces some real quality on a consistent basis.
We really took our eye off the ball for a few years academy wise hence the slow down of talent coming through and finding ourselves having to buy in talent rather than producing it.

I think another hard truth is that youth talent isn’t reliable, it comes in waves sometimes. Also the NW just seems to have a deeper pool to draw from than we do in Yorkshire. The hotter beds around Halifax / Dewsbury are contested and then we seem to draw a lot from Kippax region.
