Basically I think Agar was saying that if he had out Ava back on he would have had to take him off again after 20 minutes so it would be a ‘waste’ of a sub if the pack that was on could cope, it makes sense but on the flip side that’s not a good look for Ava who is clearly struggling with fitness. I think we might see Holroyd over taking him this season.

Ava clearly not at the level of fitness required (certainly for the new rules) but I thought he looked noticeably better against salford.

Just listened to the full interview. That was a lot of words to say hes not happy with how hes going.

Ava is not fit enough to make an impact in the current format of the game, but we are so low on quality props he has to play. Even if the game goes back to how it was he’s going to need to get fitter than he is.

Our overall conditioning could be better.

I get that the game is quicker but last nights game in those conditions wasnt any quicker than it was before covid. The scrum aspect still takes 40 seconds as teams dont put their markers in place til last few seconds. Only the repeat set sped the game up last night.

The game last night was very stop start to be honest.

If they are saying Ava couldnt last the pace last night then hes no chance.

I can live with fitness being an initial issue after lock down,especially for the big lads, buttheyve had weeks and weeks to get back into shape

Given the squad disruption and the weather, I thought it was a good result and performance. Brian Mac wrote us off at half-time and didn't think we'd be able to come back in the conditions. It had banana skin written all over it after what happened against Huddersfield last time around.

Quite a few players otherwise regarded as fringe did well, e.g. Thompson, Ferres, Donaldson, Alex Sutcliffe.

I think with our full strength available squad (i.e. not missing the 7 players who pulled out) we would have comfortably pulled away in the second half, converting some of those missed chances and disallowed tries.

Not getting at all carried away, but sometimes you can only play what is in front of you.
